Eric called me this morning telling me that he couldn't pick me up today because he wasn't going to school. When I asked him why, he got all stupid and started saying all these lies.

     "My cat died."

"You don't have a fucking cat."

"Yeah, babe. Cuz it just died."

"You've never had one, Eric." I rolled my eyes.

"Marilyn, you wouldn't know when I got one 'cuz you never listen to anyone."

If this goes on, Eric and I are done-and I'll be the one to end it. But breaking up with Eric would...put me in a...difficult situation. I'd already dated most often hot guys I'm friends with at school. Plus, everyone says Eric and I are perfect for each other. People have been deeming us couple goals and all that, saying that we look so cute together. It's mainly because we and it seem that way. Or I do, at least. People look up to me, people see me and they see a hot, wealthy, high maintenance girl. Eric and I are dating and we're so in love and it's so perfect and blah blah blah. But we're not. Not at all.

At my locker later today, I'm exchanging books from my locker as Gin, Blue, and I talk.

"Guys, he blew me off earlier this week saying had to take care of his cousins. He blew me off. That's like saying 'no, Marilyn, I don't wanna have see with you'."

I slam my locker shut and we start walking. The hallways are basically empty, but a freshman zooms past us, his massive shoulder bag dragging on the floor.

Gina, Blue, and I burs out laughing.

"Damn, boy. We're not on the track field slower fuck down." I laugh obnoxiously.

"Whoa, girls I really gotta get to class." Gina breaks the fun.

     I shrug and eye her.

"Yeah. All of us do. But, why...?"

"'Cuz Crooker's been up my ass lately on m tardiness." She plays with her hair. "Plus, I mean I have a huge test coming up a-and I'm behind-"

"Please, C's a squeeze." I brush her off as we round the corner. I can tell she's anxious. Just then, the late bell rings and his class room all the way down the hall.

     "Great," I hear Gina mumble.

"Oh." Blue looks at her. "We need to get better at this."

We finally reach the end of the hall and enter the classroom. To my surprise the door is left open. Everyone is already in their seats and they're silent, either listening to whatever Mr. C is saying or sneaking their phones.
