I sit on my bed cross legged, flipping through documents on my laptop.
After Coulson revealed that a Shield agent dropped me off at the orphanage 2 weeks ago, I've been spending all my free time looking for her.
And I didn't get a lot a free time since a freaking dead guy tried to contact someone on the ship.
Someone knocks on the doorframe and steps in.
Coulson.
"Mission briefing in 5." He tells me.
"Katherine Shane?" He asks peering at the image on my laptop.
"Do you know her?" I ask.
He shrugs.
"We ran a few ops together in the '90s. Smart, resourceful."
I smile.
"Had a soft spot for Truffaut movies." He finishes.
"Easy there, charm school." I joke. "According to these files, Agent Shane could be my mom."
Coulson sighs.
"Even if Shane was the agent who dropped you off at the orphanage, it doesn't mean she's your mother." He reminds me.
I know that!
"I started looking into all the female agents active when I was born." I explain.
I look up at him.
"Mm-hmm." He encourages.
"Needle, haystack, I know." I mumble. "But then I factored in age and marital status, and then I built a program to narrow down the field." I explain excitedly.
"You're still looking at a long road." Coulson says.
"Well, it would be a lot shorter if I could access more files." I pout giving him puppy dog eyes. "Maybe you could remove my internet nanny?"
Coulson doesn't react.
"I'm talking about my tracking bracelet." I clarify jingling my wrist.
"I got that."
My heart beats excitedly.
"So you'll take it off." I venture, testing the waters hopefully.
"No." He says. "But I asked May to look into Shield's more restricted files."
My heart sinks.
Does the whole team know?
"I was kind of hoping to keep this private." I tell him.
Coulson closes my laptop and puts it on the shelf.
"Agent May specializes in private. Now don't go looking for anymore files."
I sigh and stand up.
Oh well.
