The lights came on as I heard men groaning and moaning.
'Station 52 Morning alarm.'
I got up half asleep still in my white crew neck shirt and turnout pants with suspenders hanging down at my side.
"Station 52. KMG 365." I slurred yawning my hair messy and then I put the mic back down. I put on my button up shirt and made my way to the day room to make a cup of coffee. The phone rang and I jumped answering it.
"Station 52. This is Captain Stoker speaking." I say leaning against the wall with Spots at my feet.
'Mike it's Annabeth.'
"What happened?" I ask my heart racing.
'She's been bit by a rattler.' The panic in my wifes voice was hard to listen to but, it was both my duty and as her husband something I had to hear out.
"I'll get the men." I promise.
'I love you..'
"Don't panic. She'll be ok I promise." I say, "I love you more."
I hung up the phone and ran to the dorm area.
"Silent alarm guys, 9 year old bit by a rattler !!" I shouted, "My house."
The men hurriedly got dressed and ran to the rig as I did the same in sheer panic. We all made mistakes but, as both the Captain and husband of my wife I needed to be there for her and our daughters when they needed me.
