I hated to see my wife crying. I hated even the thought of it. I could feel the grime on my face as I made it to our driveway and I saw my boss inside the house. I waited around the corner listening as he drove away. I waited even longer contemplating what to say to her till she sat on the porch.
"I had no idea what to say to you." I say standing in the rain, the grease soot and grime smearing as I rubbed it off on the top of my palm.
"Mike!!!" She gasped running to hug me.
"I'm okay.." I say smiling, "I'm okay, I promise."
I felt the coldness of her hand against my cheek.
"I was so worried about you." She says smiling as tears fell.
"I know, I was worried about you." I say.
"Me?" She said, "I wasn't the one who was running into a burning building when everyone else was running out of it."
I looked at her tilting my head to the side trying to keep cool.
"Okay?" I say questioningly.
"I'm not going to argue but, I thought you were dead..." She says, "Why do you do this to me???"
"We've had this conversation before love." I say attempting to avoid confrontation because of my short temper with the guys leaving me.
