Chapter 16

"So, what would you like?" Ashton asked Liberty after they sat down in a nearby reastaunt.

"Um...." She said. "I'm not really sure. Would you pick for me?"

"Yeah, I'll pick. Anything inparticular you don't like?"

"I can't eat anything with nuts."She told him. "It doesn't end very well if I do."

"Alright, no nuts. I'll remember that." He said, smiling at her.

"What would you two like today?" A waitress asked, smiling at Ashton. Liberty wasn't so happy about that, even though she had no clue as to why.

"Grilled chicken with lemon sauce for the both of us and... what do you want to drink?" Ashton asked her, smiling.

"Water." She said, smiling shyly.

"Water for us both too." He told the waitress.

"Alright, your drinks will be right out, and your food shortly after." The girl said.

"So, any clue as to why Lucas decided to ditch us earlier?" Ashton asked. She shook her head.

"Why? Did he and Ellie do it on purpose?" She asked, not sure. Ashton nodded.

"Those two would, ecspesially since their back together. They were the ultimate matchmakers back in school." He said. Liberty was confused.

"Why would they do this though?" She asked. Could they notice the little things she didn't understand. The small looks and the shy smiles? How she trusted him more than anyone else?

"There is no telling with those two." He said. The waitress came back then, silencing their conversation.

Later that night, Lucas walked into Ashton's room, a bright smile on his face.

"So, how did the night go?" He asked, ready to hear what went on.

"It was fine..." Ashton replied. He new to be very careful about what he said. This was Lucas. He thrived on things like this. One thing he knew Lucas didn't care about was that Liberty wasn't like other girls. She wasn't his to pursue. She was his charge. She wasn't avaliable.

"Ashton, I have to have something to tell Ellie tomorrow." His friend said. Ashton sighed.

"It's not going to happen, Lucas. She's not mine to have. Besides, she's still so insecure about everything. She wouldn't even understand anything like that just yet." Ashton said to his friend.

"Ash, she's allowed to be with who she wants to be with. She trusts you, she acts different around you. I'm pretty sure she likes you. Ellie's pretty sure too." He said. Ashton sighed again.

"Luc, it's not going to happen. You are very likely just seeing things in your own way. You're just twisting it." Ashton said. Lucas opened his mouth, but Ashton cut him off. "Lucas, just drop it."

"Alright, fine." Lucas said.

Lucas wasn't planning on dropping it just yet, though. It didn't matter what Ashton said, he knew what he saw was real. Ashton may have told him that Liberty wasn't his to pursue, but Lucas didn't think that way. For one, Queen Eliza already loved Ashton, as he made her little girl smile. Second, all Liberty really needed to understand anything like this was another girl to help explain. That girl was Ellie.

"Ellie," He said, as soon as she answered her phone. "I think I know what needs to be done to help those two get together."

"What?" She asked. Lucas smiled, knowing the plan he formed in his head would work.

"First, we need to help Liberty understand what she's feeling."

"You mean that Liberty and I need to go on a girls' day?" She asked, causing Lucas to laugh.

"That's exactally what I mean."
