Chapter Seventeen

Katie's POV:

I walked through the woods.Erik followed behind me."Katie,where are we going?"He asked.He was tierd.He hardly slept last night because of me.I got myself thinking of rogues last night.My cousin,Phoebe,was murdered by rogues and I knew that they were trying to kill off my family.It wasn't just my cousin.They murdered my uncle Derek and Erik's parents.Anyways last night I started thinking about rogues and death and them murdering my family and stuff.Just bad thoughts and they were causing me to be afraid so Erik had a hard time sleeping because he could feel the fear running through me.And now he's exhausted."I just wanted to look around the woods and make sure-"I stopped myself.Erik hated talking about rogues.It made him think of his parents.

"That's why you were afraid last night?"He asked quietly.I nodded."Sorry."He shook his head."It's okay."He grabbed my hand and we continued walking."Erik,can I ask you something?"I asked nervously.He looked at me and raised an eyebrow."Sure.What is it?"

"I was wondering about your parents."He stopped walking."What about them?"I looked down."I-I don't know.I kind of was wondering about what happend that night."He sighed.I felt guilty and I could feel his sadness in me."I don't really wanna talk about it right now."

"O-okay.Sorry."He half-smiled."You've apologized a lot today."He said and yawned.I smiled."Yeah."We started walking again.We were pretty deep in to the forest."Guess what you should do today."He said grinning."What?"I asked curiously."I think you should shift."

"I don't really wanna.I heared it hurts.Especially the first time.Not in the mood for pain."He smiled and grabbed on to my hand again."It'll be okay.I'll help you through it."

"I'm not sure."He laughed."What?You don't trust me?"I smiled."It's not like that.I'm just..."

"Afraid?"I blushed a little.I was a little bit embarassed."Yeah."He chuckled."Don't be embarassed for being afraid.Everybody's afraid sometimes."I smiled.He was so sweet to me."Okay."

"Okay?"

"Yeah."

"Okay what?"I rolled my eyes."Okay.I'll shift."

"Right now?"

"Yes."

"Yes what?"I playfully shoved him."Yes I'll shift right now."I felt my heart beat speed up.God,I was afraid.He kissed me."Don't be afraid.Calm down.Actually I take that back.Your heart beat needs to be beating fast the first time you shift or it'll be hard for you to shift."

"Oh god,I'm afraid."He laughed and then kissed me again."If it helps I'll wait to shift until after you do."I nodded my head."Yeah,definately."He smiled."Okay."

"How do I do this?"

"Focus on your inner wolf.I know that sound hippie-ish,but just listen to me."I chuckled and he rolled his eyes."Wait.Shouldn't I have some extra clothing?"He nodded towards his backpack."Already grabbed some."

"You jerk!You were planning this!"He laughed."Not until you told me you wanted to go for a walk in the woods."

"Whatever."He laughed again."Just focus on the wolf."I folded my arms."Fine."I closed my eyes and focused on a wolf."Now just let go of all thoughts and let your body take control."Wow that sound weird.I chuckled."Clear your freaking mind,Katie."Erik said."Okay,okay.Gosh."I cleared my mind of all thoughts and focused on the image of a wolf.Slowly I started feeling my body shake.And then pain surged through me and I fell over clutching my body.I felt Erik sit down next to me."It'll be okay,Katie."I felt him wince.Tears streamed down my face.I hurt all over.I could feel all of my bones rearranging themselves.

It felt like hours that I was in pain,but really it was only a couple of minutes.After a couple of minutes it stopped and I looked down at my...paws?Oh my god!I did it!I looked up at Erik and watched him transform quickly.He was a dark brown almost black wolf with dark eyes.

"You okay?"What the-?Where the hell-oh yeah."Yep!Oh my god!This is so cool!Wanna race?"I watched his wolf grin."Totally."

"Okay.On the count of three.One,Two-"He was already running."Come on Katie!"I rolled my eyes and ran after him.

I stopped.What was that noise?I heard something.What was it?Then I heard it a loud screeching howl.My heart stopped.Oh god.Erik looked at me.He knew that howl perfectly."Katie.RUN!"We ran as fast as we could trying to get back home.Within seconds though they were in front of us growling and snapping.
