Chapter Twenty-Four:

Rachels POV:

I was laying on Jared's chest sleeping happily when there was a knock on our door. Groaning, I climbed out of bed and walked over to it throwing a robe on as I made my way. I cracked the door open sleepily gasping as I saw Mr. Woodsburrow's tear stained face.

"Jared, you need to wake up hun." I called over my shoulder.

"May I?" Mr. Woodsburrow asked gesturing toward our room. I nodded and opened the door wider.

"Dad? What's wrong?" Jared said wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me down beside him.

"It's...It's Katie. Micheal Railer found her lying in the woods. She's completely out of it, and as your mother would say, completely bonkers." his father chuckled on the end before crying even harder. "What are we going to do Jared?"

"Where's Erik?" I asked stting up straighter as Jared pulled me tighter to him.

"We don't know. We think he was killed. Which would explain why she isn't functioning."

We just learned in class on Friday that when a male is killed, that the female, well, the marked female, goes completely out of it and can't even function on their own. They can barley even tell what's going on. And the worst of all, the females mark, just disappears. This would make sense.

"Where is she?" Jared asked pulling me closer to him.

"In the extra bathroom getting cleaned up."

"I need to talk to her right now." Jared said pulling me up with him and walking toward the door with me in his arms.

"Jared. Hey, calm down." I said stroking his face to calm him down. "You can't go in there honey. She isn't dressed. Calm down, okay. I'll go talk to her alone, alright? Stay here and talk to your father."

"But, she's my little sister. I have to be there for her." Jared said looking down at me.

"Jared, I understand that, but she's naked. You can't go in and see her in the bath tub when she's naked. I'll go talk to her, maybe she'll be more willing to talk to me anyways." I said kissing him on the check and pulling out of his arms as best I could.

"I don't want you to leave my side. I need to know that you're safe." Jared said tightening his hold on me.

"I'll be right in there with your mother and mine. I will be fine. Wait right beside the door if you want to. I'll be fine. Please Jared. I'll be fine." I said pulling away from him again.

"Alright, but if I hear one think I shouldn't, I'm coming right in there, am I understood?" Jared said releasing me slightly.

"Yes baby.I'll be right back." I said turning and walking into the bathroom closing the door behind me.

"Rachel dear, is everything alright?" My mother asked looking up after pouring some water over Katie's head. Katie was curled up into a ball humming to herself and staring at a towel against the wall.

"Jared needed to talk to Katie, and I told him he couldn't because of her nakedness, so I came instead. Has she said anything? I need to know for Jared."

"Nothing. Nothing but this inconstant humming. You can try to talk to her, but I don't think it will be of any use. Good luck dear." Mrs. Woodsburrow said stepping away from the tub and moving toward the window with my mother in tow.

I sat on the edge of the tub putting my hand in the water to grade a wash cloth running the sudsy rag over her dirt covered body. I gently massaged the soap into her skin. I started humming her song with her, until she instantly stopped and looked over at me.

"Rachel? Is he okay where he is?" She asked silently looking out the window and sighing.

"Yeah, I would believe so. Can you tell me where he is?" I asked gently, rinsing her body.

"They killed him. They took him from my arms and...killed him." She said as a tear came from her eyes.

"Do you know why? You must have heard something." I said quietly, but with authority.

She went back to humming for a few minutes. She finally went silent and seemed like she was thinking really hard about something. Then went back to humming. This went on for an hour or so. Humming and thinking humming and thinking.

"They said," Katie finally managed, "that they were going to destroy the Woodsburrow Pack after they were distracted and weak."

Katie went back to humming, and i stood up instantly nodding at the two women who were in deep conversation, leaving the room. I almost knocked Jared down as he heard my retreat and was standing right by the door.

"Where's your father? Where's my phone? I need to call my father immediately. Call a pack meeting now Jared. Right now." i said running over to our room flinging the door open and grabbing my phone.

"Hello?" My father said in a gruff voice.

"Dad, how fast can you get here?" 

"Why?" He asked in annoyance.

"Because we might have a war on the brink."
