“Brenden Maxwell! You need to get up or we’re all going to be late for school,” I yelled into my bedroom. It was already 7:45, so I had been up for over an hour and he was still in bed. He just groaned and rolled over away from the door. I walked to the bed and climbed on top of him, straddling his waist and planting kisses all over his face. “Brenden, wake up,” I muttered in between kisses.

His eyes shot open as the feeling of my lips lingered all over his face. “Baby, I don’t want to go.”

“But it’s the first day of senior year!” I yelled in his face.

“I want to sleep, Luey-Poo,” he groaned, shutting his eyes again.

I trailed my kisses down his chin, shoulder, and chest, making my way to the waist of his boxers. This woke him up and he pulled my face back to meet his, crushing his lips against mine.

“Brenny, we’re seniors! And on top of that, we’re both captains of our soccer teams and definitely the hottest couple in school. I don’t think a first day could get any better,” I said, pulling away from his kiss.

“Okay, I guess I can get up now,” he said, gripping my waist. “But only if you wake me up like this every day.”

I laughed before kissing him and getting off the bed. “I’ll see what I can do. Just get up and get your cute little butt in the shower so we can go to school.”

As I walked over to my vanity to do something with my hair and put on some make-up, I watched Brenden in the mirror. He slowly got up and stripped naked before trudging off to the shower. He sure was a piece of work.

“Ash!” I yelled from the top of the stairs.

“What?” she yelled back from the kitchen.

“Are you ready to leave?” It was now 8:00 and we should have left the house at least five minutes ago but since Bren couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed, we were going to be late on the first day.

“I’ve been ready for twenty minutes, Court. Get with the program.” I rolled my eyes and walked back into my room, hoping Brenden was finally ready to go.

“Bren, we need to leave right now.” He has got to be the absolute slowest person on the planet. He just grinned up at me from his seat on my bed. I gave him an annoyed look and he finally got up, grabbing his bag and mine before following me downstairs.

“It’s about time you got your slow ass around,” Ashtyn said, giving Brenden a pointed look. “We’re going to be late!”

“Oh relax, miss sassy-pants,” Brenden teased, pulling me towards the door. “Let’s just go.”

“Court, I just got a great idea!” Ash yelled in my ear as we made our way to the locker room after soccer practice.

“What is it this time?” I asked.

“We should scrimmage the boys and whoever wins has to buy the loser food and wait on them hand and foot for an entire weekend.” I looked at her, thinking it over as she wiggled her eyebrows at me.

“Okay, but only if coach is cool with it,” I said after a couple minutes. “If he is, we’ll do it Friday and then we can assign each loser to a winner for the weekend.” She squealed loudly before running off to the showers.

“Ashtyn?” I called out into the parking lot. I had showered and talked with coach before he left and now I couldn’t find Ash so we could go home. “Ashtyn! Where are you?”

“Boo!” she yelled, jumping out from behind a car. I screamed bloody murder, jumping about three feet in the air.

“What the fuck, Ash? That was not funny!” I scowled at her.

“Oh, lighten up. What took you so long anyway?”

“I was talking to coach,” I answered. “He says he doesn’t care if we scrimmage the guys as long as Dave is okay with it. So we just have to let him know tomorrow at practice. Then they can referee the scrimmage on Friday instead of us having practice.” Dave was the coach of the boys’ team.

“That’s so exciting!” she yelled, pumping her fist in the air. “Let’s go get Bren to ask Dave!” She began skipping towards Brenden’s car, where he was talking with some of his teammates. By the time I got there, she had already asked his opinion.

“Hey Lu,” he said, greeting me with a kiss. “So you really think you girls can beat us?”

I matched his smirk with one of my own. “Of course we can,” I challenged. “Call Dave right now and ask him.”

When Brenden got off the phone, he pulled me close and whispered in my ear, “It is so on, babe.” I laughed and pushed him off me before getting in the car.

The remainder of the week went by slowly as both mine and Brenden’s soccer teams prepared tirelessly for the big scrimmage and schoolwork set in for our senior year. As Friday approached, however, Ashtyn and Brenden were driving me nuts arguing over the scrimmage and the bet.

“You just wait, Kadell,” Brenden yelled into Ash’s room as he walked in through my doorway. “Tomorrow night, it’s on!” Kadell is Ashtyn’s last name, by the way, in case you didn’t pick that one up.

“Not even, Foxe!” she yelled back.

“Oh my God, Brenden,” I groaned, looking up at him from my bed. “I have had enough of this constant bickering. You are sleeping at home tonight.”

“Baby,” he whined, putting on his pouty face. “I don’t want to. I want to cuddle."

“Nope,” I replied, getting up off the bed. “You are going home and I will see you tomorrow morning.” He continued pouting at me until I leaned up and kissed him softly. “Come on, now. I’ll walk you home.” I dragged him by the hand down the stairs and out the door.

When we got to his house, he pulled me close to him by my waist. “Will you stay with me?” he asked, lightly running his lips over my ear. I shuddered at the feeling.

“Brenny, no.” I shook my head and pulled back. “I will see you in the morning. One night apart won’t kill us.” He pulled me back so I was flush against his body and started kissing my neck. “Brenden,” I warned.

“Lu,” he groaned, moving his lips towards mine, up my neck and across my chin. “Please.” His mouth slowly made its way back to my neck where it remained; planting kisses as his fingers tightly gripped my hips.

I ran my fingers through his hair, getting lost in the moment. As his fingers continued to tighten their grip, I came back to reality and pulled his head away from my neck. “Brenden, I’m going to leave for real this time before you can change my mind.” I pulled back away from his body as he loosened his grip.

“Lu, I love you,” he whispered, looking deeply into my eyes.

“Bren, I love you too.” I leaned up and kissed him deeply, pulling his hands off of my body. “Get a good night’s sleep and I’ll see you first thing in the morning.” I backed away from him and blew him a kiss before turning around and walking home.
