Chapter Seventeen
“Ash? Is that really you?” I said, grinning from ear to ear as I saw who was at the door. She nodded and opened her arms. I ran towards her and grabbed her into a big hug. Ashtyn was my absolute favorite cousin in the whole wide world. She used to live here in Virginia with me, but her dad got transferred to a different state with his work three years ago.
“I haven’t seen you in like three years!” she yelled, letting go of me. “You’ve changed so much. And, you’re right, you’re damn sexy, girl.” She smacked my butt and laughed as I pinched hers.
“You’re looking pretty damn sexy, yourself,” I said, looking her up and down. She was nearly as tan as me, and that’s saying a lot since I spent two weeks sunbathing in Hawaii. Her flowy blonde hair was about butt-length, and her bright blue eyes shone through her dark layer of mascara. We could be twins; that’s how alike we looked—if it weren’t for her being probably two inches taller than me. “How long are you here for?”
“That’s just it!” she said excitedly. “I’m staying here to graduate!” We grabbed each other’s arms, jumping up and down, and squealing with glee. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I’m staying here in the guest room. We’ll be like sisters!”
“Let’s go get your stuff!” I said, running towards the door. I stopped. “Wait. How did you get here?”
“Daddy brought me, of course. He wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to see you and your parents.” Her mom died when she was nine. So, her father was all she had left—just as she was all he had. And he spoiled her to death.
“Hey, Ash! Come in here!” I yelled from my bedroom. She came running in from the guest room. “We’re getting you a MySpace. Right after you check mine out, of course. And you need to see the pictures from my party, and of Shane, and of Brenden, and even Trevor! Hurry up and come over here!” She grinned and joined me on my bed, with my laptop in between us.
“Dude, Brenden is hot!” she exclaimed after seeing about five pictures of him. “Obviously I remember him, but he definitely changed. A whole lot, by the looks of it.” I grinned at her and clicked on the good picture of me and Trevor—not the one where he’s squishing me.
“This is Trevor, Brenden’s brother. Do you remember him?” She shook her head. “He graduated two years ago, so he would be three years older than us, but check him out.” And she did—well, what she could see, at least.
“And you aren’t dating him because…?” she asked.
“Because I love Brenden. But I have to tell you about Trevor.” I told her all about him kissing me and coming to my house and causing trouble. She just laughed. “It’s not funny! He’s my boyfriend’s brother!”
I ended up laughing right along with her, and because of that, it took us that much longer to get through the pictures and set her up a MySpace. We used her laptop, of course, and she already had some pictures on there, so they’re the ones we started with.
“Tomorrow you can meet Brenden and Trevor and Shane, ‘kay?” She nodded. “And we’ll get you more pictures for your MySpace.” Again, she nodded. “Good night.”
“Night, babe,” she said, getting up off my bed. She smiled and blew me a kiss—which I returned—before heading to her own room.
