Chapter Thirteen
“It’s fucking five in the morning!” I yelled as the alarm went off. It was our last day in Hawaii. We were to board the plane at ten o’clock that morning. Brenden shut off the alarm and cuddled me close to him.
“We still have to shower and pack a little bit and we can go out to the beach one more time,” he whispered. I could tell he didn’t want to be awake either. But he was the one who set the alarm without telling me. I rolled over to face him and kissed him before getting up out of bed.
“Let’s go then, Mr. Sunshine,” I said teasingly as I stripped to take a shower. We had grown accustomed to taking our showers together. To save water, of course. I blew him a kiss and went to the bathroom. He got to the shower before I stepped in, as I was waiting for it to warm up. He smacked my butt and stepped in first.
“We’re waiting to board the plane now,” I said into my phone. Brenden and I were sitting in the lobby of the airport. It was quarter to ten and we were waiting very impatiently.
“Your father and I have arranged for Brenden’s brother, Trevor, to pick you up at the airport.” My mother’s voice came out of the phone in my hand. “He has strict orders to bring you straight home, and I don’t expect you to give him any troubles. Just make sure he really does do just that.”
“Yes, Mother,” I said, smiling. “I’ll see you soon, Mom. Bye.” I hung up the phone quickly. Although it seemed like my mom had no personality, she really was a worrier. On some occasions. But she did hide it well.
“B! Court!” Trevor yelled from across the airport lobby. What a doofus. We grinned and made our way over to him with our luggage. Trevor took my suitcases and led us to the car where Nagini was waiting for us.
“Hello my beautiful little puppy,” I cooed when we got to the car. She had gotten really big—considering we were only gone two weeks, that is. “Hey, Trev, was she good?”
“As perfect as a new puppy could be.” He grinned and got in the driver’s seat. Brenden and I climbed in the back because Nagini was already planted in the passenger seat.
As promised, he drove me straight home and both the boys carried my luggage into the house. “Mom, Dad, I’m home!” I yelled. They came running into the kitchen and hugged me and Brenden. I handed them the presents we got them. It was really hard finding them something because they had just been to Hawaii. We got them t-shirts. Kinda lame, but they seem to like the gifts.
“Bye, Bren,” I said, kissing him before pushing him out the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m sure.” I smiled to let him know I was messing around. “Bye, Trev!” He smiled and waved at me from the car. “Come on, Nagini. Let’s go up to our room so I can give you your present.” I got her some chew toys. What else do you get a dog?
“Shane! Oh my God!” I yelled, running out to meet her in the driveway. We met halfway and hugged. “How was Daytona? What was that cute boy’s name again? Are you still talking to him? Did you hook up with anyone else? Come on, give me all the details!”
“Courtney,” she said really slowly. “Let me breathe.” I laughed and pulled her into my house and up to my room. “Okay. His name is Liam Potter. And he’s freaking sexy. Well, you saw the picture.” Yes, yes I had. He was gorgeous. Tan, shaggy brown hair, green eyes, tall, muscular—delish.
“Yeah, yeah. We both know how hot he is. And are you gonna keep in touch with him?” I asked, my words bunching together at times from excitement.
“Duh. We exchanged MySpace URLs, email addresses, screen names, and cell phone numbers,” she said in her ‘you should already know that’ voice.
“This is so cool!” I squealed. “Now we both have boyfriends. You are going steady with him, aren’t you?”
“Well, not exactly. You see, he lives in South Carolina and I live here in Virginia. I’m not going to promise him I won’t have sex with other guys and I’m not going to have him make that promise to me either. I like sex, Courtney. And I’m not going to wait a whole year to have sex again. He was already the first in three months. That’s a long time.” She looked away from me as she said it, digging through her bags.
“IhadsexwithBrendeninHawaii.” I mumbled.
“What?” she asked, although I was quite sure she heard me.
“I had sex. With Brenden. In Hawaii,” I repeated, slower. Her mouth dropped and her eyes shot wide open.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she yelled. “When?”
“He was always around when I talked to you and I didn’t want him to know I was bragging it up,” I said. “I’m not gonna be like that. And it was on our second Tuesday there. And it was good.”
“Brenden was a virgin, though, right?” she asked. I nodded. “So that means when you have sex with someone else—someone more experienced—you’ll have more fun.”
“I won’t be having sex with anyone else. He gave me a promise ring two nights later.” Her mouth dropped again.
“Oh my God! You’re practically married!” I nodded. She hugged me. “I’m so happy for you! You aren’t a virgin anymore! Wait until Jackson finds out.” She laughed.
“You can’t go telling everyone,” I said. “Sure, people will probably find out, and Brenden might even tell some people. But you can’t just tell everyone about my sex life. It’s mine.”
“I won’t have to tell anyone,” she said. “When people see the two of you together, they will know. It’s just a given. Happens with everyone.”
“Oh. Well, okay. Hey, I have presents for you!” We exchanged gifts. I had gotten her a coconut bra and grass skirt to match the ones I got for myself, a new bikini, an actual coconut, and a stuffed teddy bear wearing a shirt that said Hawaii. In return, she got me a Daytona Beach towel, really high white wedge heels, a Daytona Beach shot glass, and a really short red pleather skirt. We exchanged our thanks and eventually fell asleep on my bed for the night.
