Micah’s POV:

I sat on my bed staring at the floor waiting for Katlin and her dad to arrive. I couldn’t find any kind of joy. It was like I was dead inside. This was my senior prom and I couldn’t even crack a freakin’ smile. I just wanted to pop open the nearest bottle of alcohol and down it.

‘Getting drunk isn’t going to make your pain go away.’ Said my conscious. Of course it was right but a little alcohol wouldn’t hurt.

“Mike, your ride is here.” My dad yelled from the living room. I felt myself cringe at the thought of Katlin being outside that door. Standing I turned to my computer chair and grabbed my suit jacket. Shrugging it on I took one finally look in the mirror. I looked like shit. Plain and simple. No matter how fancy the duds you could see pass it. Opening the door I was greeted by Seven in his Batman gear. He held out his hand and smiled.

“Be brave Uncle Mike. I know you hate the Krazy Queen Katlin but the Justice League will be there to save you.” He said fighting invisible guys as we made our way down the hall. It was brief but it was a smile. Leave it to Seven to make me feel something.

“I’ll be watching out for you guys.” I said letting go of his hand. As I entered the living room I spotted Harper leaning against the door jamb that led to the kitchen. She looked at Katlin then looked at me with a raised brow. Shaking her head she turned away and disappeared into the kitchen. She’d been very clear in expressing her confusing and anger earlier as I got dressed.

“You just got free of the crazy girl! Why in the world would you agree to take her to prom!! What happened to being in love with Declan?” To that I had no response. She kept going on and on about how Katlin was poison and she was killing me. I didn’t argue because she was right. I knew Katlin was killing me but I couldn’t do anything about it... not yet. I had to hold on then I could get rid of her once and for all.

“Don’t you look dashing.” Katlin said. She kept batting her eyes at me waiting for me to say the same thing to her but I didn’t. I wouldn’t perjury myself anymore to satisfy her. Turning to my dad I allowed him one picture of us together. Once it was done we headed outside. I climbed into the back of Mr. Mitchell’s Porsche and pulled on my seat belt.  I sat there waiting for Katlin to make it into the car.

‘Did she think I was going to open the door for her?’ I thought to myself. Once she was inside Mr. Mitchell brought his car to life and we were off.

“So Micah, you excited for tonight? Mr. Mitchell asked me while driving. I didn’t meet his eyes in the rearview mirror. I couldn’t or he would see how miserable I really was.

“Yes sir. I’ve been looking forward to this night for a long time.” I said trying my best not to sound like a wooden doll. I felt Katlin’s fingers trying to link themselves with mine on the seat. Snatching my hand away I launched into a full conversation with Mr. Mitchell about State’s chances for the championships. Once Mr. Mitchell got started he didn’t stop until we were at the hotel. He was still talking when the valet came to park the car. I ignored Katlin’s arm and walked in with Mr. Mitchell pretending to give a rat’s ass. By the time we reached the ballroom I could see Katlin’s face had turned a beautiful crimson red.

“Well, I’ve held you up enough. You guys have fun.” Mr. Mitchell said leaving us to go check in at the chaperone table. I could feel Katlin next to me but instead of acknowledging her I pulled out my ticket and handed it to the girl at the desk.
