Chapter 3

I woke up surrounded by grass, the same kind that the Zangoose ambushed me from. I rushed to get to my feet, but once I started to get up, I completely froze.

I didn't freeze out of fear or pain. I just froze in time. I was involuntarily paralyzed from the neck down when I saw a small girl like pokemon emerge from the grass with her eyes closed and clearly focused on something. When she opened her beautiful eyes, I fell back on the floor. In my mind I put together the pieces and remembered that the little creature that was looking at me was a Kirlia.

As she danced closer to me, I saw a small smile appear on her face as she said "Kirlia!"

So she must have used Recover on me in order to heal me, I though to myself. She is a really cute pokemon.

As I sat there looking at her smile at me, I decided to see if she was really attached to me or not. I proceeded to stand up and walk out towards the further away dirt road where I could see a small puddle of my blood.

After walking a few yards, I stopped and peered back. As I thought, Kirlia was following closely behind me. I walked a few more yards and looked back to hear an encouraging "Kirlia!"

As I stepped out onto the dirt road, I looked back to the grass hoping to see the little face looking back at me.

Instead I saw motionless grass.

My smile automatically dropped and I could feel my eyes begin to swell up. My knees wobbled and I kneeled down on the dirt road crying for my lost friend. The one thing in my life that has shown any interest in me ever since I lost both my parents and my sister. My life was a void in which I merely survived while other people lived. I sat hunched over on my knees sobbing for a while when I decided to head on back home. So much for my dream of being a trainer.

Reaching for the doorknob, I heard what I thought I would never hear again.

"Kirlia?"
