Chapter 7

"Hey, Albert! How's was your weekend?"

I asked Albert, my good friend that was a trainer in the gym.

"It was good. How about you?" He asked me.

"Yeah it was good as well," I replied.

"What's that in your hand?" Albert questioned the Pokeball in my hand. He knew that I didn't have a pokemon or the money to by a Pokeball in the first place.

"Oh y'know, just my new Pokemon." I said trying to keep in a grin.

"Are you serious? What Pokemon is it?" Albert said extremely excited.

"C'mon out Kirlia!" I said opening the Pokeball.

"Kirlia!" The little pokemon replied coming up to about Albert's and my waist in height.

"Oh my god! She is so cute!" Albert said squatting down to her eye level. "C'mon out Dewott!

The little otter popped out of the Pokeball and landed right next to Kirlia saying hi and talking with Kirlia.

"So, what water move did you teach Kirlia?" Albert asked still with a smile on his face.

My smile dropped however.

"What do you mean water move? Kirlia knows Psychic moves."

"Ryan, all pokemon in here must have a water move because this is the water gym of Maricity. If Kirlia doesn't know a water move, then Maris may fire you for not following the rules!" Albert said alarmingly.

"Ok, ok. We have a couple hours before Maris should arrive. Can you and Dewott help Kirlia learn some water moves?" I asked Albert.

"Sure but we should work fast." He replied.

********

"Ok. So let's start with Water Gun since its the most basic water move. Dewott, show them Water Gun!"

"De-Wott!" Dewott said as he spewed out water from his mouth.

"Now, since Kirlia cannot generate water like water pokemon can, you will need to use your surroundings." Albert explained.

"Ok, Kirlia. Try manipulating some water so that it shoots out into a stream." I said.

Kirlia focused on the water and began moving back and forth like the waves. As she did this, her hands lit up purple as she raised them above her head. Some of the water came out of the surrounding grotto like a snake and twisted around above Kirlia.

At once, Kirlia squinted a little and let go of the water, having it fall on top of her.

"It's okay Kirlia, just try again." I encouraged.

"That was really good!" Albert said on the other side of the grotto.

After a few more tries and failures, Kirlia was able to force water almost as strong as Dewott could in only an hour.

"Nice job, Kirlia! Just remember to use your surroundings." Albert said.

Use your surroundings.

That statement stuck in both Kirlia and my mind.

"How about a little battle to test your skills with the new move?" Albert said challenging me to a pokemon battle.

"You're on! You ready Kirlia?" I said.

"Kirlia!" She said with excitement.

"You can have the first attack." Albert said to me.

"Okay, then. Kirlia use Headbutt!"
