First Challenger

Chapter 8

"So how many people usually arrive each day, Maris?" I asked.

"Usually, there is about 10 to 15 people a day. But there have been times when only 4 or 5 people come in here." She replied. "A lot of this job is really just relaxing and training in between challengers."

"Ok" I said.

"Looks like we got out first challenger of the day. Since you are the newbie, you go first, Ryan." Maris said.

"Good luck!" Albert encouraged.

"Thanks!" I said climbing on top of the trainer's rock on my battle arena.

I took a look at the challenger who was looking around a little frightened and was clutching the Pokeballs in his pocket. Because this is 2nd gym in the region, I could see that even after winning the first gym battle, he was still confused on what to do.

"Over here." I called to the guy who then approached me. "I'm your first opponent."

"O-Okay." The trainer replied. "Go Beedrill!"

"Go Kirlia!"

Our iPokes linked up and the battle commenced.

"Beedrill use Pin Missle!"

Kirlia was hit with a few thorns and had her health drop down about an eighth.

"Kirlia, use Faint Attack."

Kirlia snuck up and punch Beedrill into the wall knocking it out.

"Beedrill, return. Go Voltorb!"

"Voltorb use Discharge on the water!"

Voltorb went partially in the enclosed pool and electrocuted it, making sparks jump out of it.

"Kirlia, use Psybeam".

Kirlia shot out a beam of energy and took out 3/4 of Voltorb's HP.

"Voltorb, get close and then Selfdestruct!"

Before Voltorb could move in response, Kirlia jumped forward and kicked Voltorb into the water thus shorting it out, stopping the electricity and knocking it out.

"No! Not Voltorb!" The trainer cried out.

"Nice try. Good job" I said trying to make the challenger feel better.

"You too. I haven't seen fighting like that ever before" he replied, walking out of the gym.

"Nice job, Ryan!" both Albert and Maris congratulated me.

"Thanks guys!" I said.

"Now we can relax for a little while." Maris said. "Usually there aren't many people that come right now. Unless..."

"Surprise!"

Smaller chapter this time. Sorry. Next one will be longer and a bit more interesting.

I made this chapter to introduce some of the unique fighting styles that I want to use in my writing. This way I can try to avoid monotonous battles after battles.

Also, I wanted to ask all of you to comment your ideas for a name of the region the story takes place in. Once I choose the one that I want to use, I will notify everyone and add it into the story.
