Chapter 5
I woke up in the morning with the little bundle of warmth laying next to me fast asleep. I decided that pancakes would be a good choice in order to make my new friend welcome.
After the last pancake was put on the plate, I took out some more of the strawberries and put them on top of the pancakes. As I finished preparing everything, I heard a familiar yawn coming from my bedroom. I looked back at the opening to see Kirlia rubbing her eyes and smiling at me as well as the pancakes.
"Since tomorrow is Monday, I will have to go to work tomorrow." I said to Kirlia who gave me a small pout.
"However, since I work at the Gym, you can come along with me! The only problem is that you need to be caught and trained first."
"I know that you are already trained and well behaved, but I need you to be in a Pokeball" I explained to her. "Since money is tight with me, I need to come up with a way to get some money to get a Pokeball."
"Kirlia!" She said while throwing a few fists.
"You are saying fight for money?" I asked her. When I received a nod, I said, "Ok then, if you want to."
After finishing our breakfast, I decided to stop by the library and use the Internet for a second and learn about how battles work. I may work at the Gym, but I am the 'behind the scenes' guy. I clean up and take inventory on stuff. I have never actually seen a true pokemon battle.
As Kirlia and I walk into the library, I take a seat at a computer and look up the battle rules.
"The art of Pokemon battles for prizes can only be taken place between two certified trainers. Certified trainers are recognized by the ownership of an iPoke, a device that maintains all of the trainer's stats including money. In order to receive an iPoke, one must complete a short Pokemon Ethics Questionnaire and pay the fee of 50 Poke. Trainer Registration can be completed in any Pokemon Center."
"That's good to know. I will stop by there later." I say to myself.
"In order to commence battling, the trainers must have registered their pokemon in their iPokes and select the battle command. From there, the type of battle must be selected (1-1, 2-2, etc.). From there, the Pokemon battle will commence. Upon winning the battle, the victor will automatically receive an amount of money based on both of the trainers' money.
"Okay I get how this works now." I said to myself. "You ready Kirlia?"
"Kirlia!" She replied with a smile.
"First we have to make a quick stop though." I said.
***********
"That'll be 50 Poke, sir. Thank you," the pokemon center attendant said. "Okay here is your iPoke and Trainer Card! Have a nice day!"
"Thanks!" I said to the attendant as I walked out.
"That was much easier than I expected. And it's only 12!" I said to Kirlia. "Do you want to train or get some lunch first?"
Her stomach rumbling answered for her.
After enjoying some nice tacos for lunch, we set off into the woods that were all too familiar to both of us. After walking to where the pathway was somewhat visible, I stopped and stooped down to Kirlia's level.
"So, lets get you registered in here first," I said scanning Kirlia with my iPoke.
"So it says here that you know Psybeam, Headbutt, Calm Mind, and Faint Attack. That sounds pretty good!" I announced to Kirlia with a smile on both of our faces.
"All right lets start training and see how you do, Kirlia." I said to her.
"Kirlia!" she said pointing at a small Spinarak that noticed us and began to scuttle closer to us.
"Okay! Kirlia! Headbutt!" I cried out a little too excited.
"Kir-la!" Kirlia said as she made contact with the spider.
"Spi! Spi!" The Spinarak said as it shot a few sharp thorns at Kirlia.
As she quickly dodged a few, I said, "Now, Faint Attack!"
As I said this, Kirlia closed her eyes and stood still for a moment and then disappeared into the shadows. Both the Spinarak and I were confused as to where she had gone. With a small flash, Kirlia reappeared exactly while she punch the spider into the air causing it to fall down and become unconscious.
Knowing that this would happen, I walked over to Spinarak after saying "Good Job" to Kirlia and bent down over it. I then pulled out a small spray bottle of home made medicine that healed the Spinarak right away. The happy Spinarak then looked at me nuzzled against my leg as a sign of affection and then scurried off into the forest.
As I watched the grass shift to and fro from the spider, I heard a ding from my iPoke. It's said that Kirlia leveled to level 27 and wanted to learn Recover. Looking at the machine in confusion, I selected to replace Calm Mind and then watched as Kirlia then began to heal the small scratches on her arms.
"Hmm... So this thing actually does work." I thought to myself looking at the iPoke.
"Ok, I think that you are ready to take on an actual trainer now. What do you think?" I asked Kirlia.
"Kirlia" She said with a nod.
"Ok then, lets go!"

This chapter requires a little bit of explaining to understand everything.
First off, an iPoke was something that I just made up. In my mind, it was basically an iPhone like device that took care of a lot of the battling nuances.
I like that word by the way. 'Nuances'. It just sounds funny.
Anyways, this chapter was a bit more technical than the rest of the story. So far as I am writing this, I have made only made one reference to the level of the Pokemon. Also, I only mention the actual iPoke a few times. Basically, when you see me talking about the health bar, just imagine it being projected on the iPoke screen.
In addition to this, I will not be using the traditional 4 move set for any Pokemon as it severely restricts the story and causes me to constantly back track to see what moves each Pokemon has. Because of this, each Pokemon's moves will vary throughout the course of the story and will contain a few moves that I made up.
Also, don't worry because there won't be very many training chapters and the ones that i do include will have some importance to the overall story.
Thanks for your support!
