CHAPTER 1

________________________________________________________________

Austin's POV

"Austin, Alex is here!" My mom yelled.

"Okay, I'll be right down!" I yelled back.

I finished up my ustream video and sprinted down the stairs. I should've walked, because I missed a step and finished going down the stairs on my butt.

"Austin are you okay?" My mom asked as she smothered me with her kisses.

"Mom stop, I'm fine." I said as I wiggled out of her grasp.

"Okay, but next time walk down the stairs." She said as if I was five years old.

"Mom I know, quit treating me like a baby." I said a little annoyed.

"I'm not."

"Every time I fall down you smother me with kisses and want to mummify me with bubble wrap."

"Well when you say it that way, but remember I do it because I love you." She said as she squeezed me into a hug.

"Mom." I whined.

"Sorry."

She released me from her grip and walked into the kitchen. I opened the front door and Alex fell to the ground.

"Dude what are you doing?" I asked as I started laughing.

Alex quickly got up and dusted himself off.

"I wouldn't have fallen if someone didn't take a million years to open the door." He said a little irritated.

"Sorry." I was trying so hard not to laugh, but he has the worst angry face I've ever seen.

I started laughing again and this time Alex couldn't help, but laugh too. I noticed a small envelope in his hand as I clutched my aching gut.

"What's that?" I asked curiously.

"I don't know it was lying on your welcome mat. It's for you though."

Alex handed me the envelope. It was a faded cream color with my name smeared with red paint on the front.

"Open it!" Alex said impatiently.

"Dude calm down."

I ripped open the envelope to find a flyer about the world's best haunted house. It read...

"There are very few people that get invited to our haunted house and we think you have what we are looking for. You may bring one friend and only one, but be warned this is not an ordinary haunted house..."

"When is it?" Alex asked.

I read the date and time.

"Alex it starts in an hour, we have too go!" I yelled excitedly.

I looked over at Alex. He had a terrified expression and was stiff like a board.

"Alex?" I waved my hand in front of his face.

"Austin I don't want to go." He said in a shaky voice.

"Oh come on, you read the letter only very few get picked!"

"Can't you get Robert to go with you?" Alex pleaded.

"He's out of town and your my best friend, don't you want to say you had the guts to go in the house?" I said.

"No."

"I'll give you $100."

"Fine, but you better give me the money."

"Yes!" I started to do my little happy dance.

I asked my mom and she said we could go as long as we were careful. With that I grabbed the car keys and my jacket and headed out the door. We got in the car and drove to our destination.

Brittany's POV

"Hey Brittany where did you put my straightener?" My little sister Hailey asked.

"I don't know, why?" I asked not looking away from the t.v.

"Does this answer your question?" She pointed to her hair.

"Holy poof! Your hair is huge!" I yelled.

"Yah, so can you help me look?" She asked.

"Sure." I couldn't take my eyes off of her hair.

We searched the whole room and our bathroom and couldn't find it. I was halfway under the bed when Hailey screamed. Her scream startled me causing me to hit my head.

"Ow! why'd you scream?" I asked while I wiggled out from under the bed.

"The-the-the..." She stuttered.

"What!" I yelled.

She pointed behind me. I turned around to see the straightener sitting on the bed with an old envelope that had my name smeared in red paint on it.

"That was not there before." I said a little freaked out.

"That's why I screamed."

I went to grab the envelope, but Hailey pulled me back.

"What?"

"What if it's a trap?" She asked.

She had a point there.

"Well there's only one way to find out."

Hailey backed up. I hesitated, but then snatched the envelope and ran towards my sister. Nothing happened.

"See nothing happened." I said as if it wasn't a big deal.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I don't know I haven't opened it yet."

"Right." She said as if she knew that.

I tore it open and read the paper.

"Cool! A haunted house!" I said excitedly.

"But it's July." Hailey said confused.

"So? It says I can bring a friend." I looked at Hailey.

"Oh heck no!" She yelled.

"Come on, we never do anything fun."

"That doesn't sound fun to me! Plus it says friend, not sister."

"But your like my best friend. Please?" I gave her my best pouty face.

"Fine." She grumbled.

"Yay!" I hugged her tightly.

"Brittany, your squeezing to tight."

"Sorry." I released her.

"When is it?" She asked.

"Um, it's..." I read down the paper.

"It's in 20 minutes!" I yelled.

"Come on we got to go!" I grabbed her hand and we went down stairs.

"But what about my hair?" She asked.

"Here."

I handed her a hair tie. Our parents were out of town so I was in charge. We grabbed our jackets and ran to the car. We sped off in my electric blue chevy camaro to the address on the paper.
