Austin's POV

What did we just walk into? A room full of captured kids? What kind of place is this? What did I get myself into? My head was filled with questions, but no answers. After seeing that room I realised we were really in danger, and that I might not get very many opportunities to tell Brittany that I like her. I just need to man up and do it! I was going to stop her in the hall after spying on the witch, but when I heard the door slam, I knew there was no time to stop. We all froze, my heart racing.

"What are we waiting for, RUN!" Alex yelled.

We all started sprinting down the hall. I could hear the werewolf growl behind us. We took a sharp right turn, not slowing down. I told myself not to look behind, but I couldn't help myself, I needed to know how close It was. The werewolf was coming up fast. We ran faster and faster, turning left and right, but our chances were looking slim. I glanced over my shoulder one more time. The werewolf was now just a few feet away. I redirected my attention to my escape path and found that Alex, Brittany and Hailey were gone. I couldn't let this slow me down so I kept on running. A hand reached out and latched onto my arm pulling me into a closet. The door slammed behind me followed by a thump and vicious clawing. I thought the zombies had gotten me, but I was relieved to find it was Alex, Brittany and Hailey.

"Thanks guys." I managed to say in between breaths.

"No problem." Alex said gasping for air.

We all stood there in a circle, under the dim light breathing heavily. This might be the only chance I have. I walked over to Brittany's side and looked her straight in the eyes. Now that I had her attention, I leaned in and gave her a sweet gentle kiss. She looked at me and smiled. Her face started to turn red as Alex and Hailey cheered and whistled. I grabbed her hand and our fingers intertwined.

"Guys is that really necessary?" I asked.

"Yes. Yes it is." Alex laughed.

At that moment everything was silent. There was no more clawing at the door.

"Guys, the clawing stopped." Brittany pointed out.

"Do you think he..." I was interrupted by the sound of wood splitting.

The werewolf had broken through the door enough to fit his giant hand. Unfortunately Brittany and I were closest to the door. The claws swung furiously, hoping to make contact. There was not a lot of room to maneuver, so it was extremely difficult to dodge the razor sharp claws.

"Look for a secret passage way!" I yelled.

Hailey and Alex quickly searched for an exit. The werewolf continued to claw, widening the hole he created. The door looked like it was ready to collapse.

"This door isn't going to hold much longer!" Brittany yelled.

"We're looking!" Hailey yelled back.

"I found it!" Alex screamed.

Hailey and Alex crawled through the trap door. I grabbed Brittany's hand and we ran for the door. Just as we approached the trap door, the werewolf broke through. He charged at Brittany and I. Brittany was halfway through, but I couldn't get in fast enough. The werewolf's claw ripped through my arm. I cried in pain. It burned throughout my body, paralyzing me.

"Austin!" Brittany screamed.

She crawled back up to the entrance and tried to help me move.

"Alex!" She screamed for help.

The werewolf howled with laughter. He struck again, but Brittany defended me, taking the hit. She screamed. I found the strength to get up. I gripped her hand tightly and we crawled to the entrance. I didn't let go of Brittany's hand as Alex pulled me. The werewolf charged and Brittany was barely in.

"Brittany!" I yelled.

She looked back, but there was nothing she could do. The werewolf dug his claws into her heels and began dragging her out. She screamed in pain. The only thing keeping her here was my hand holding hers. She was now crying. The werewolf was to strong he was now pulling me with her. She looked at me with tearful eyes.

"I'm sorry." She whispered.

She let go and was dragged away.

"Brittany!" I Screamed.

Tears filled my eyes. I tried crawling back up to her, but Alex and Hailey pulled me to safety. The werewolf howled, proud of his victory. Everything went silent except for the weeping of Hailey and I. Alex had tears running down his face as he approached me, holding Hailey close as she cried on his shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Austin." Alex whispered.

I had my face buried in my knees. I stopped crying and was overwhelmed with anger and frustration.

"If I would have just held on!" I yelled.

Alex and Hailey backed up giving me space.

"Austin it's not your fault." Alex said.

"Yes it is!"

I began hitting the walls.

"Austin! Stop!" Hailey yelled.

I turned and looked at her.

"Brittany wouldn't want this!" She continued.

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down.

"I guess your right."

"We'll get her back Austin, but right now we need to protect ourselves." Alex said.

And with that we continued down into the dark corridor, determined to get Brittany back.
