Hailey's POV

I was devastated. Did I really just leave Alex to die? I couldn't think, I didn't know what to do. I crawled over to a corner and started crying. I was completely alone.

Brittany's POV

As we walked up the stairs I swear I heard someone crying. I listened closer and I was right, someone was crying. I knew that cry though it was almost the same cry when Hailey saw the one direction movie for the first time. Hailey was up there! My heart lightened up and I sprinted up the stairs. I'm pretty sure Austin had no clue what was going on, but I didn't care. I reached the top and turned the corner to see Hailey curled up in a corner.

"Hailey!" I screamed.

I rushed to her side and squeezed her tightly.

"I'm so glad too see you! I thought you were gone." I said starting to tear up.

She began to smile.

"I'm so glad to see you to! Where's Austin?" She asked.

"He should be up here any second."

I have her another bear hug as Austin entered the room. He was it of breath.

"Hailey!" He yelled excitedly.

His face went from happy to confused as he looked around. I just realised what was missing and I turned my attention back to Hailey, she was starting to cry again.

"Where's Alex?" Austin asked.

Hailey burst into tears and I began to run her back, so I could calm her down. Austin came and sat down beside me. We both looked at Hailey waiting for an answer. After a few minutes she was ready to tell us. She told us every detail. I began to tear up with Hailey as she finished. I looked at Austin who was tearing up to.

"Austin I'm so sorry." I said as put my arm around him.

His tears turned to anger as he got up.

"No! He's not gone!" He yelled.

"But Austin you heard Hailey."

"He's not gone!" He snapped.

I backed away and stood by Hailey who was freaked out like I was. Austin paced back and forth. He suddenly stopped and walked over to the door that lead to where Alex was. He turned the knob and opened the door.

"Austin what are you doing?" I asked nervously.

He just looked back at Hailey and I. Then it hit me.

"Austin don't!" I screamed.

He ran past the door towards the pit of snakes. I raced after him. He leaped off the edge of the cliff, my fingertips brushed his shirt, but I was too late. He disappeared underneath thousands of squirming snakes.

"Austin!" I screamed.

Hailey came up beside me and held me back. We began to weep in each other's arms. It was just Hailey and me now. I took one last look before we turned around to hopefully find an exit. My heart was doing backflips. Austin resurfaced, but he wasn't alone. Alex was unconscious in his arms. I was jumping up and down. Hailey was in the other room waiting for me. I ran into the other room with a huge grin and I could tell by her face she was extremely confused. I dragged her out to see Austin pulling Alex to safety. She began to jump to. Austin reached the cliff and I had Hailey holding onto my ankles as I grabbed Alex's wrist. We hosted him up while Austin climbed. We dragged Alex into the other room. I punched Austin when he entered the room.

"Ow! What was that for?" He said as he rubbed his arm.

"I thought you were gone! Don't ever do that again!" I yelled.

"You sound like my mom." He giggled.

I couldn't stay mad at him and his smile was contagious.

"Uh guys! You can make googly eyes at each other later, Alex is still unconscious."

Our faces turned bright red.

"Right." Austin said as he walked over to Alex's side.

"Is he breathing?" I asked as I joined them.

Hailey checked for a pulse.

"He's still alive!" She yelled with excitement.

We all smiled and cheered knowing that we didn't lose a friend. Witnessing this experience confirmed my growing suspicion about this haunted house. I really don't think we're supposed to make it out.

"Guys? What if we weren't meant to find an exit?" I asked with a concerned face.

They're facial expressions were now serious as they thought about what might be the possible truth.
