Chapter 32: Luke's interview pt. 1: preparation /The National Furry Football League Combine
-Luke-
I woke up the next morning feeling absolutely AWFUL!! Holy fuck am I sore. Do I regret it? Oh hell no. As we speak, I'm still on my fluffy pillow from heaven with his.... Moving on.I groaned as I got up out of bed, but I had to get a shower. I was a sticky mess and the combine was soon to start. So, for my star athlete, I want to look the best for him, to hopefully indirectly inspire him to do his best. As for what I'm wearing, it's Chase's practice shirt and athletic shorts. Words can only do so much. It's the action that sets others in motion.
First things first, breakfast. He needs a good breakfast to start the day. I don't know what exactly to make. Pancakes are usual. Eggs most definitely, for protein. How good would bacon be for him? Dammit, all these decision. I decide on making eggs, grits and toast. It's simple, but good for him. He walks out as I finish up.
"Aww, you didn't have to make me anything," he said with his arms wrapped around my waist.
"Do you even know what today is?" I say almost like a parent scolding a kid for forgetting to do a chore.
"Yeah, it's the start of the NFFL combine. We don't need to worry. It's going to be hosted only a couple of miles from here at the new stadium they built. Well, it's the practice field." Chase said. "I don't have to check in or prepare for anything. Also, I know I'll do well."
"Well, you need the right foods in your system to perform. We also need to get you your things. I researched this. I want you to be prepared fully."
Chase chuckles. "Thank you. I love you." He kisses my cheek.
I set his plate down at the table. "I'm gonna go to Kristina's place today, hang out with her. We haven't done that in a while. Not since the start of college. We got inundated with work to do."
"You'll at least be there for the combine itself, right?"
"Not physically, no. It was too expensive for passes, but I will watch on tv."
I could see the disappointment in Chase's eyes. He didn't have to say anything. His facial expression was enough. I felt bad for not being there for him, but I honestly couldn't do it financially. Chase had been the one supporting this apartment. I've been broke as hell. I'm going job hunting and I'll find a job eventually. I hug my boyfriend tightly, burying my muzzle into his chest. I want to be there for him. I really do. He hugs me back just as tight. He rubs my back.
"It's fine. I know if you could, you would. It's not a problem. You'll still be on my mind."
"Your mind should focus on burying the other draft choices in the ground. You are gonna be the best damn running back in our class." I say, poking his chest.
"Oh please. It'll be easy."
"Don't get too cocky now. Remember, you will actually have to try. There are other great running backs out there."
"As for now, let's just head to the stadium and get my things for tonight."
I nod and we go to his car. I sit in the passenger seat and look out the window as we drive to the stadium. I text Kristina to pick me up from there, because I have a feeling Chase won't be able to leave, and they'll kick me out because I don't have a pass.
"Good luck, Chase. Kick their asses for me." I smile as I hug him goodbye.
"Don't worry. I will. They won't know what they are up against."
