Chapter 33: The NFFL Combine Part 2: Topping the Charts/The Interview
-Chase-
Fuck this. I'll give them a show they won't forget. It's a good few hours before it starts, might as well get a good stretch in. I head to the weight room, where they have all sorts of equipment at our disposal. I grab the workout band and start with hamstring and quad stretches. Can't risk an injury now can I? Others have come in and started stretching as well."Hey, Chase. Is that right?" A rabbit came up to me.
"Yup. May I ask what your name is?" I asked him.
"Mason. Mason Hopsford. 15th child. Youngest of the bunch. Not the first Hopsford going for the NFFL."
I chuckle as I shake his paw. His name was familiar. If only I could remember where from. "Chill. I asked for your name, not your life story. Anyway, what's up, Mason?"
He chuckles. "Sorry. But yeah, nothing much. Waiting for this damn combine to get underway. I'm going to top the receiver charts on speed and agility, I'm sure of it. What about you?"
"I'm aiming to reclaim the number 1 overall pick. It's bullshit that just because I am who I am, not how I play, it would completely fuck up my selection."
"I don't get it. I saw FSNN and they showed the homecoming video. I was on the other team. I saw it when I was warming up. That was very sweet of you. You aren't like the stereotypical jock. I liked that about you. You never talked any kind of shit, you left it all on the field. I like how you don't care what anyone says, you will follow your heart. You'll remain the number 1 pick. How could you not? You are a prime example of how a jock should be."
"Are jocks supposed to be bisexual?" I laugh. "Anyway, I thought your name was familiar. You caught a few touchdowns on us if I'm not mistaken."
He laughs. "No, but it's just how you act. Yeah I did catch a few, but you still outscored our entire offense. You are a really talented tailback."
"Thanks. You're still one hell of a receiver."
"Hey. I've put as much work into my game as you have into yours. We made ourselves who we are, and no one could stop us. We are fucking freight trains, a nightmare for defenders." He and I chuckle, and I nod in agreement.
"You got me there. I have a lot I play for so that's why I work hard. Hey! What if we did get drafted to the same team?"
"Dude. We'd be fucking impossible to beat. With you trucking through defenders and me spreading out the defense. They won't know how to stop us."
I smile and shake his paw. "It was great meeting you. See you out at the combine," I say. He nods and heads out. I smile. Finally, I meet someone who's not a complete dick at this combine. I swear, most of these guys are in way over their head.
-Luke-
God I'm nervous. What do I do? I've never been in an internship, much less an interview. What the hell am I going to get asked? How do I respond?"Dude. Chill the fuck out. You're gonna do great." Kristina assures me.
"Thanks. This is just my first interview."
"The more nervous you get, the more you'll fuck up. Trust me. Answer the questions truthfully, and you'll be just fine. You've told me the times you wanted to create video games for yourself. Now is your chance. I'll be in the car jamming out to some under the bridge." I quickly grab the phone and put them on. I love that band. "Or right now" she continued.
"Yeah sorry. This is my only calming music."
"Oh by the way. To show interest, ask questions about them. What their company stands for, things about working there. Do that and you're more likely to get accepted. Trust me. Soon enough, you'll breeze right on by."
