I made a strangle noise, but I felt a twinge of happiness.
"Next topic" I grunted " what are we going to do when we get to Jacksonville, enrol in a high school or just keep a low profile?"
"Well I think that I would like to enroll in high school to keep my marks up" Raine wanted to be a teacher and I really hope I don't ruin that for her, her marks were always the highest in the class.
"I could tail you, go to the same classes as you"
"You want to go to all academic classes and do all of my after school clubs?" She said a hint of amusement in her voice. I flinched, I was in the easiest classes possible and wasn't planning much for my future.
"Ugh, maybe I will just watch the high school" I said smiling, Raine gave me a stern look, she was going to make me graduate high school whether I like it or not.
"Should we buy an apartment or a house?"
"I think we should rent an apartment, because we might have to leave quickly"
"Is Calum staying with us?"
"I don't know" I said hoping that he would, it would make this one hundred times better and safer. Raine got a sad look in her eyes, and I knew that she must be grieving over leaving Tony.
"I'm sorry Raine" I said for the a thousandth time. Raine waved her hand and replied,
"It's not your fault, and it was my choice to come with you and I'm glad I did" A malicious smile crept onto her face. "And now I can keep the two of you from tearing each other's clothes off" I flopped down onto the bed, with a sigh of annoyance. Raine just laughed as she crawled into th bed with me. The night was peaceful, no nightmares or red eyes just blissful sleep with my best friend sleeping soundly beside me.
I woke with a start, the bed was empty and cold.
"Raine, are you there?" No answer. I scoot to the end of the bed and scurry to the door well aware that I was only in my pyjamas. I headed to Calum's room, knocking urgently on his door. The door doesn't open.
"Calum it's me" I half whispered trying not to wake any other sleeping neighbours. The door creeps open, Calum standing behind the door. I push my way through "Raine is not in the room" I said frantically not facing him. No answer. I spin around frustrated, "Are you listening—" I stopped the person, no the thing in front of me was not Calum it was a pale vampire whose hair was in short black dreadlocks, the male vampire smiled revoltingly. I backed up, I had no weapons and no way of escaping. A muffled scream came from somewhere in the room, and I caught a glimpse of another human in here. I backed out of the cramped hallway into the small room and saw Raine tied to a chair with two vampires flanking her, and Calum was pushed against a wall with three other vampires restraining him. His eyes were wide when they passed over me, his fear was obvious as he fought his captures.
"Asha behind you!" Calum shouted furiously, I twist around and the vampire who opened the door was just feet away. I had totally forgotten about him, I leapt out at him aiming a punch for his stomach but instead I kicked him as hard as I could in his groin. The vampire buckled over and I swept out his knees causing him to tumble to the ground, I looked around desperately for any sort of weapon. The small coffee maker was the closest to a weapon. I ripped it from the wall, turning it to a sharp corner and smashed it down onto the fallen vampires head, he went limp at my feet.
I turned to the next threat but stopped short.
"Asha Banks, come with us and your little friends won't be hurt" said an overly tall vampire menacingly, a sharp claw against Raine's throat. Raine was whimpering quietly but her eyes were set on me. This made my anger turn to rage, I took a slow step forward the claw around Raine's knew tightened but the vampire hesitated. Then the door I came through creeped open and heavy footsteps came from the hallway.
"Help, there are some men attacking us" I called hoping it was a staff member. But then a hand covered my mouth and an arm wrapped around my waist, I started struggling, twisting and kicking out. I bit down on the hand masking my mouth, my captures grip loosened and I broke from its grip spinning around to face my threat.
This vampire looked oddly familiar like I had seen him before but not for a long time. And then it hit me, I had met this man many years ago, before my parents death. His hair was silvery grey and his face was sharp that added a serious look to his already harsh exterior. This man, was my uncle. My dad's oldest brother and the uncle who never came to any of our family get togethers and who I have only seen in pictures. And here he stood in front of me, teeth bared and posed to attack. I look in between Raine and all of the vampires around us and remembered my pledge to keep Raine safe.
I gave a slight nod to my uncle and threw my hands up in surrender. I was immediately surrounded by vampires and I watched as one vampire knocked out Calum after he was yell at me for stepping down and Raine sobbed silently in the corner. And then hand began grabbing me, cold dead hands tearing at my shirt and scratching my skin.
"Wait we need to bring her to the boss unharmed" another boss seriously.
Then everyone's went dark, a burlap bag was slipped over my head. And that was when I started screaming, I screamed so loud my throat was hoarse.
I flung up in bed, my breath rapid and throat dry. It was all just a nightmare, it felt so real my hands shook as I pushed my messy hair out of my face. 4:23, too early to get out and about. I looked down at Raine who was sleeping like nothing happened. It was just a nightmare, I reminded myself. Or was it? Was it another vision that Calum told me about, was that how it was going to end? Not knowing whether or not Raine and Calum would be safe, and I still haven't seen how I die. I dragged myself out of bed and began pacing, overwhelmed by all the weight that had been shoved on my shoulders. I didn't know what to do with my time, so I grabbed some cress clothes and made my way to the scroungy shower hopefully the water would wash away my worries. The cold water trickled from the shower head
