Chapter ten-Night watch

I smiled.
  "Goodnight" I whispered more to myself. I checked on Raine who was already fast asleep in the same clothes she had worn today. I head back out to the hardy bonfire, Brad looks very annoyed but his face lights up when he sees me, I laugh, he is so cute. The sound of my laughter brings everyone's attention to me.
    "Hey, Asha where did you and Calum meet." Well you see one night I heard a knock on my door and I opened it and saw a super hot guy on my doorstep who warned me that my friend was about to be killed, and then I went out to find her and was attacked by a herd of vampires. Then Calum jumped off a roof and helped me kill them and finally, he carried me back to my apartment. Ummm, think fast Asha.
    "Well I worked at this great coffee shop and one day Calum and Brad came in to study. When I took their order I saw they were studying biology, and that is my best subject so I helped them, and ever since then we have always been together" it wasn't all a lie, my best subject was biology and my dream job other than slaying vampires was being a large animal vet. Although those dreams were crumpled I still had hope.
    "Oh didn't know Calum was an animal kind of guy" Alex stated.
    "Umm, ya" I mumbled.
    "So you and Raine hooked up" Alex asked Brad. Brad looked furious, and I sorta wanted to rip his head off.
    "No, Asha introduced us and we have been dating since." Brad siad stiffly. Wow Brad had feelings for Raine to, they would make a great couple.
  "Oh, same thing, she is still so hot" Alex grunted. Brad growled and there was a spark of anger in his eye, Rachel was infuriated. Even though she cheated on him she was still clingy. I punched Brad softly in the shoulder, it brought his attention to me and I gave him a sharp nod, trying to tell him I felt the same way and to chill out. He took my advice and took deep angry breaths beside me, the fires glow cast an eerie glow on everyone's face.
    "Alex don't you have a big thing going on tomorrow?" Rachel siad still irritated.
    "Oh yeah, well I won't be seeing you guys in the morning so, goodnight"
   "Night" Brad and I mumbled. Watching the couple walk into the house.
    "That guy is such a—"
    "Creep, perv you get the point" I finished when Alex was out of earshot.
   "Ya exactly, Calum seems like he is regretting bringing you guys here." Brad grumbled.
    "I can see that, he is always ready for a herd of who knows what to come busting the door down." I recalled.
   "Asha, you never really talked about your parents, can I ask what happened to them." Brad asked politely. I sighed.
   "Sure why not, three years ago Raine and I were sleeping over at my parents house. Both of our parents were going out to dinner together, but they never made it there. The police siad that some large creature tore their throats out and drank all of there blood but when I went to identify them, I knew that no animal could do that and that something greater must have done it. And one day I was looking through my fathers stuff and found an old journal that he wrote. It talked about vampires and other paranormal activity around the area. That is when I stared hunting vampires." I let it all out, the memory of my parents torn up body's was to much.
I'm sorry, did the police ever suspect someone?" Brad questioned.
   "I don't remember, once I got it in my head that evil creatures of the night killed them I sort of just focused on that." I replied trying to remember any details. Brad nodded along and stayed silent.
   "Brad can I ask you why you go 'solo'?" I asked. He looked sad for a moment but passed it by, I have never seen Brad so serious and quiet, he usually was so much more upbeat.
  "Ya, let's start with my parents, my father was nothing special but my mother she was the alpha of the pack. She was never home and my father just sat on the couch watching television, but I liked to do something else, I liked to show myself to humans in wolf form and then when they are distracted I would change back to human form. That and many other games I played are what got me banned from the pack, by my own mother." Brad spoke with venom. Wow his mother must have been very strict to kick her own son out.
    "How long have you been on your own?"
   "Almost a year, since my seventeenth birthday"
   "They kicked you out on your birthday?" I was amazed that any parent would do that to their own son.
   "Ya, Happy birthday to me" Brad said flatly.
   "So, when is your birthday?" I hinted.
   "March twentythird" Brad said.
   "Oh my gosh you are just a couple days younger then Raine" I siad happily "Shit, tomorrow is Raine's birthday and I got nothing for her" I jumped up.
   "Well let's go." Brad spoke up.
   "It's pitch black outside, how are we going to see anything" I was talking like a maniac.
   "I can shift and give you a ride" Brad replied. That was a good idea but what about Calum and Raine I couldn't just leave them alone.
  "Come on I can get you there faster than any car". Brad reasoned.
   "Okay, let's go" I agreed. Brad took his shirt off and I turned to give him some privacy. A minute later a soft bark alerted me that Brad had shifted completely, I turned. It still took my breath away when I saw Brad, his midnight black fur was shiny and clean and his eyes stood out in the darkness the ice blue shown. I jumped on his back almost falling off, I grabbed a handful of his hair steadying myself.
