Do you want anything to drink?" Abigail asked dodging the questioning stares.
Abigail got us three beers and a water for herself and Raine. Abigail led the way out to a small patio with a few lawn chairs on a grassy green lawn.
"So why are you back in town?" Abigail asked settling down into the chair.
"Ummm, well I work with Asha and Raine and since they are best friends they both came along and I met Brad about a year ago and we hit it off right away. S-so we are just traveling through" Calum failed miserably at lying.
"Calum I have lived with you for over twenty two years, I know when my baby brother is lying. Know tell me the truth." Abigail demanded. Calum glared at her for the baby part, then sighed.
"Ariaden, why don't you go play with your toys on the lawn" Abigail asked sweetly, Ariaden squealed gleefully and ran over to a couple toys, Calum chuckled.
"Are you sure you want to hear?" Calum asked soberly.
"What did you do this time?" Abigail asked like she dealt with his trouble everyday.
"Well I didn't meet Asha and Raine at work, I first met Asha when I warned her that vampires were in the area and to watch over Raine. But Asha seemed to get a different message and ran right into a fight, I helped Asha kill the vampires but then she passed out in the alleyway. So I had to carry her back to her apartment and that was when I met Raine. Asha and Raine live together. Then I learned that Asha was being targeted you vampires, so we took everything and left. Only along the way when we stopped at a motel, Asha met Brad who jumped along with us." Calum explained leaving out a few unnecessary details.Abigail nodded but still looked a little hasty.
"Good to know that my little brother is getting all the fun while I'm still here" Abigail whined. I look at Calum with questioning eyes.
"Abigail and I took a bunch of self defense classes together, I beat her most of the time but she managed to beat me more than once" Calum pouted.
"Like that one time you were taking a water break but I jumped you and scared the living shit out of you" Abigail laughed hysterically like it happened just yesterday.
"How could I forget" Calum said sarcastically but still smirked.
"So you ran straight into a vampire fight unarmed?" Abigail turned back to the subject.
"Not really..." I stumbled on my words.
"Both of our parents were killed when we were fifteen, after that Asha and I lived together. But Asha declared war against all and any vampire she could find." Raine came to my rescue "The first fight she got in did not turn out to good but then she started to box and learn all these crazy martial arts, and now she is pretty much a vampire slaying God." Raine said in one big breath. Abigail looked shocked, maybe because I could fight with my tiny frame. Abigail quickly hid her astonishment, and smiled.
"I like you already."Abigail exclaimed. I had to laugh, we had only met less than an hour ago and I felt like I had knew her for years. Abigail had a light, happy cheerful side but it had a rough edge to it. She had been through so much and she still managed to put a happy smile on.
"Where are you guys staying?" Abigail asked a hopeful glint in her eye.
"We're staying with Alex and his girlfriend." Calum sighed and we all cringed. Abigail faced switch from astonishment to disgust.
"Calum why would you bring them to live with him". Abigail's voice was bitter. "You know how he gets around girls, and do you remember that ti—"
"We are not to speak about that, remember?" Calum cut her off.
"I don't care anymore Calum, you brought them to live with a rapist." Abigail half yelled. What the hell is she talking about, I thought. Calum looked angry and saddened at the same time.
"Calum...?" I asked almost to scared to. Calum looked down at his shoes not speaking.
"About two and a half years ago now, me and my best friend went to a club." Abigail cut in. " I was two months pregnant at the time so I wasn't drinking that night. But my friend was, Alex was there, I recognized him as one of Calum's friends. After a couple drinks my friend, Natalie was drunk out of her mind. I was tired and she was drunk so I left her with Alex and I stepped outside to call for a taxi, I was only gone for five minutes, but when I came back they were both gone. I waited a little while thinking that she was puking in one of the washrooms. But after another five minutes I started to get worried, I asked the bartender if he had seen her. The bartender told me the a man had lead her outside, he just thought that they were a couple." Abigail's face looked haunted. "I looked around the entire bar and then ran outside calling for her. Alex's car was still there, so I ran around to the back of the bar hoping that she was just throwing up and Alex was helping her. But when I got to the back of the bar Natalie was unconscious and her dress was pulled up to her waist." A tear rolled down Abigail's cheek. "Alex raped her and just left her there. Once my friend was conscious she begged me not to call the authorities, but I was out for revenge. About a week later, Alex was walking to the coffee shop in the dark, alone. I came up behind him and slashed his neck with a pocket knife and ran off, I staged it to look like a vampire attacked him, and it worked." Abigail's voice was laced with anger and pain.
