The old town had a grocery store which was full of rotting food but managed to scavenge some fruits and bread. And of course junk food, Brad went off on his own for a good five minutes and when he got back Calum almost pummelled him if it wasn't for the bags of raw meat in hand.
"Hey a man's gotta eat" Brad exclaimed, and Calum looked at him with disgust. I smiled to myself, jeez these guys are quite a pair.
Once we loaded up on snacks we made a quick trip to the mall like thrift shop, we were all running out of clean clothes. The few people that were in the shop watched us in awe and some with jealousy, I mean yes we had good clothes on us but they weren't awe worthy if anything. Raine was most out of place, she was wearing a long knee length cardigan with a green tank top underneath, she also wore neatly ripped black jeans whereas the rest of the group wore scruffy torn jeans and old oversized t-shirts. Ugh I didn't care, when we were satisfied we all loaded back into the car preparing for the last stretch of the trip. And before we knew it we were off today's trip is only four hours long, when we made it to Jacksonville we would be staying with an old friend of Calum's and even though his friend was the the same age as him his friend was retired after a group of very strong vampires attacked him, his friend whose name was something like Alan or something. Whenever Calum talked about him he had this far away look in his eyes, either he missed him or something was haunting him, memories are a bitch.
After four long hours of Brad talking about his childhood, Raine snoring and Calum grumbling to himself we made it to a large brick house a little ways from downtown. It's red stark brick stood out from the greening leaves, the windows needed a good cleaning and the lawn needed a major cut. Brad looked around with confusion and Calum was taking in every detail suspiciously seeming to notice what I had. We looked at each other with understanding.
"Brad, Raine, stay here till we get back" they nodded and sat back nervously. Calum and I got out of the car as quiet as possible, Calum walked closely behind me watching my back as I slunk up the cement steps. I studied the old wooden door, it had a new looking doorbell and an old rusted door knocker. I cautiously knocked on the door, after a minute we heard the patter of footsteps. Calum and I braced ourselves for a fight, the door swung open and Calum flinched before dropping his hands. I did the same.
"Calum, buddy long time no see". The man almost shouted, I cringed, I didn't like him already.
"Ya, Alex good to see you" Calum said trying to make it believable. So Alex, that was it, had shaggy muddy brown hair and swampy brown eyes, he was pumped with muscles that he must of took a hell load of steroids, his teeth were yellowed and many were missing but the thing that took me by surprise was his torn up throat. The scars were purple and raised like someone had tried to rip it out, I see why he retired.
"Ah this must be the fugitive you talked about, you never told me she was so hot" Alex said, eyes roaming my body, lingering on my chest. I squirmed and looked at Calum who was looking really sorry for me and pissed at Alex. Then Alex leaned over and whispered something in Calum's ear, Calum's eyes shot to mine alarmed.
"Asha, go get Raine and Brad, and start grabbing the bags" Calum ordered. I listened grateful to be out of Alex's sight. I was really starting to hate him.
