I look around the parking lot nervously as Glimmer yells "Wow! Really? Oyster are you being serious?"
I quickly reply with "Shhh! Yes, Glimmer, I am serious." I notice that no one is staring. Nobody is gawking at me. They are all just continuing with their morning.
Shelly takes my hand and slowly pulls me toward the entrance to the school as Glimmer runs around the front of my car. Just as Shelly and I arrive at the front bumper of my vehicle, Glimmer attacks me with a hug. "Oyster, this is great news."
I push Glimmer off after quickly embracing the hug and continue to walk into school holding Shelly's hand. "Really, Glimmer? Your not confused or frustrated or scared in anyway?"
"No, not really. I mean you could have or have had a crush on me but your with Shelly so I don't think that will be a problem. Also, your in a relationship. Which is great because well we're teenagers we need to have at least one relationship in high school. Another, thing is that this means we will never fall for the same person. So we will never fight about who should be with someone that gets in between us, because there won't be anyone in between us. Also, it allows me to be more picky about who I am in a relationship with because if they can't accept who you are then he is not the right guy for me."
We are now in the middle of the hallway to my locker. Shelly says "My class is this way. So I have to go now, but I'll see you at lunch?"
"Yeah, of course. Bye Seashell." She leans towards me but I put my finger on her oh so soft lips. "Ah ah ah. No PDA. I don't need a school wide freak out before first hour."
She huffs and sticks out her bottom lip in a fake pout. "Fine! Bye Pearl-cake." She squeezes my hand and walks off down the hallway.
I turn back to Glimmer who is smiling too wide to be comfortable. She does the teenage squeal motion but doesn't actually make the sound. As we continue to walk she says "Aw, now that I know, I can see it. You guys are such an adorable couple. You are so cute when you forget people are or can watch you."
My cheeks heat up as I say "Thanks."
"No need to be embarrassed." Glimmer laughs a little. "If you think about it, it actually makes total sense." She stares into space while she continues to talking. Coming back to Earth a second later she says "Does your mom know?"
I frown and Glimmer stops jumping for joy. "Well, yes, but she didn't take it very well."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, she was all confused. She couldn't really accept it at first. In fact, she still can't really accept it." I prepare my bag for my first class. "I told her last night with Shelly next to me and she asked me to put the conversation on pause until she could finish taking it all in and thinking it over."
I shut my locker door and turn to walk to history as Glimmer says "Well that seems to be an upsetting topic so lets talk about how you found out."
The halls start to empty as I say "Um, that's a conversation for another place at another time, because we need to get to class."
Luckily Glimmer and I have the same first hour with different teachers, so neither of us have to hurry off to another class room. Glimmer yells from right outside her classroom door halfway down the hall from mine "See ya later Pearl."
"See ya later." And we both step into our classrooms just before the bell rings.
