That night I got my new inhaler and returned to driving. The next day was Friday and it went by like any other day, except Shelly came to talk to me any chance she got and even sat with me at lunch again. She met Glimmer and I at my locker after school and walked us to my car. After Glimmer climbed in and closed her door and before I opened my door, Shelly reminded me of our breathing appointment. She told me that she would come get me at 12:30.
I wake up at about ten in the morning. I take my time getting ready, choosing an outfit that is slightly more put together than my usual look. I look in the mirror and I still don't need to do anything to fix my appearance to be presentable.
I take a puff of my inhaler and walk down stairs slowly, heading to the kitchen. I grab a bowl from the cabinet and pull out a box of cereal. Preparing my breakfast, I sit at the table and listen to the sounds outside. Even though my house isn't close to the ocean, I could still hear the loud crash of the waves.
I finish eating and prepare my bag for going out. I sit in the front room and continue to listen to the sounds of the Earth. I don't wait too for Shelly to arrive. She knocks on the door softly and waits patiently while I grab my bag and walk to the door. As I open the door a large smile appear on her tanned face. She backs away from the door to make room for me to exit the house. I close the door and search for her vehicle.
I spot it parked on the street and gaze at it in wonder. Its a beautiful red sports car. "Is it too much?" Shelly asks with concern.
"Not at all. Its-its-its perfect." My mouth hangs wide open.
Her big smile from before returns as she laughs and says, "You might need to reel up that jaw of yours before getting in so that you can fit." I close my mouth slowly and give her a weak smile as we walk to the car.
Shelly politely pulls open my door. Finally giving a real smile I say, "So should I be calling you my chivalrous knight in shining armor?"
She laughs again. Its a divine sound. "You can if you like, but I don't think its necessary." I climb into the gorgeous black interior of the vehicle. Every surface is smooth. I slide right onto the black leather passenger seat and drop my bag on the black carpet floor. "By the way you look ravishing today."
"Thanks. You look nice too." I notice my cheeks are slightly warmer than before. Shelly closes the door delicately and walks around to the front of the car. She gracefully steps into the driver's seat, closes her door, turns on the car and puts it in Drive in what looked like one swift movement. I realize I have no idea where she is taking me as she places her hands on the steering wheel the car moves forward.
