Glimmer and I look in the mirror one last time as we finish touching up our make-up. We are both wearing simple looks of concealer, winged eyeliner, mascara, and tinted chapstick. Neither of us like the cake-y make-up that some girls, like Macey, do. Just as we are finishing Mom walks in and looks surprised. "Oh, you girls look nice. Oyster I am ordering pizza for dinner what do you want on you half?"
"I'm going to a party so you'll have to eat the pizza by your self. Sorry, I forgot to tell you." I respond quickly, a little scared that she will say I can't go.
"A party. Oh! That's great! Your putting your self out there. I am really happy for you."
I am slightly confused about her support of my spontaneous adventure. "Your not going to pull the parent card and say that I can't go?" She shakes her head with a smile that spreads from ear to ear. "Really?! Thanks Mom. I love you so much." I jump over and give her a big hug. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
With that Mom leaves the room. Glimmer and I take simultaneous puffs of inhaler and then place them in our bags. We each get a drink of water before leaving the bathroom.
We head out the door and climb into my car. It has gotten a little cooler out because of the sunset. I turn up the heat while buckling myself in. Then I back out and head towards the coast and then the cliff. Even from about a mile away I can hear the music of the party and I start regretting my decision to go. What am I doing? I don't go to parties. I don't talk to people outside of Glimmer and Mom. I don't drink alcohol. And I most definitely do not smoke, anything. "Why did I agree to come with you," I ask Glimmer with a frown.
She is too excited to notice and says "Because you love me and because you are going to have a great time."
We pull up to where other cars are parked. The house is visible from where we are and I can see that pretty much every room is filled with about twenty people, except a few upper level rooms that are occupied by two people only. I immediately avert my eyes from the upper floors. I am not ready to witness something like that just yet in my life. There are a few people hang around the front yard of the house and I can only assume that there are people behind the house. Some are probably even testing their stomachs with the cliff. I turn to Glimmer and ask "Are all parties like this?" I gesture towards the house with my head as we climb out of the car.
"How should I know? Remember? This is my first party too. Come on, lets go see how wild we are." I reluctantly follow her to the house. No one seems to notice us, or if they do they don't really care that much.
