(A/N: **= flashback, ~~=back to present)

You drank the last of your coffee as you sat at the table in the cafe. The last warmth of it was soon gone and you held onto the lingering heat from the mug for as long as you could. It was a Saturday in early December and you were unfortunately out of the house at 7am. Normally you wouldn't be awake in the morning on weekends, but today the new book from Takatsuki Sen was published. You stood outside the book shop with a hundred people for over 2 hours, waiting to get your hands on a fresh book.

**

After paying for it, you ran through the winter snow and air to get to Anteiku. After finding your spot next to the window, you couldn't wait to open the book for the first time and read it. Opening it, you could smell the satisfying scent of a new book, each page lined with never before seen words and stories. You read a quarter of the way through the book before you were interrupted by one of the workers in the cafe. A purple haired girl stood in front of you, a notepad and pen held in her hand.

"Excuse me?  You've been here for over an hour and haven't ordered anything. To stay, you're going to have to buy something."

You looked down at the table occupied only by the book. You put your bookmark, a plain purple one but with bunny ears on top, onto the the page you were on.

"Oh! I'm sorry! I'll have a medium coffee!" You said, trying to laugh away your embarrassment. The girl smiled, wrote down your order, and walked away. You felt slightly hot- you were certain a couple of people had turned around to look at you when she began talking to you.

~~

The mug had finally turned cold, so you put it down and replaced it with the book. Unexpectedly, a ring was heard from your pocket. You took your phone out and pressed the sleep button. A reminder you set for yourself for 10am was on the screen. Your mum had told you to pick something up for her at a shop for 10:15, so you set one for today in case you got distracted by the book. Picking up the book and handing a passing worker the money, you rushed to get up and quickly hurried out the cafe. As you quickly walked towards the door, a black-haired boy walked in. He wasn't looking where he was going, and neither were you. You collided into him, dropping your book and falling to the floor. You looked up to see his face bright red and in shock.

"I'm so sorry!" You said to him as you stood up.

"N-no! I-I'm sorry, I wasn't l-looking where I was going." He stuttered and scratched his head. "Let me get your s-stuff for you. He proceeded to shakily pick up your bookmark.

"I like your bookmark." He awkwardly laughed. He handed you your bookmark and leaned down to grab your book. Before he touched it, his hand froze in position and you heard a gasp coming from his mouth. "I-is that... Takatsuki Sen's new book?!" He almost shouted. Picking up the book, he held the book in his hands and inspected the cover. His eyes were glowing like he had just opened the best present he could ask for. He carefully flicked through the pages and read the blurb, before handing it back to you.

"How did you get this?! I thought they were being released tomorrow!" He excitedly said.

"Oh no, they were being sold today!" You said, finding your lost page and putting the bookmark back into it. The boy's face changed from shock to sadness.

"Oh. If I go to the book shop now, they definitely won't have it for a while." He sighed. You looked at him and smiled.

"Um, if you like, you can borrow mine once I finish it." His face lit up once again, and he clasped his hands together.

"Really! I-I... Thank you! I don't know your name, though!" He blushed.

"It's okay! I'll probably finish it in day or two. And my name is Y/N."

He smiled. "Nice to meet you! My name is Kaneki Ken. H-have you..."

"Have I what?"

His face turned a bright red as he asked "H-have you got a ph-phone? So you can um, tell me when you're done with the book."

You looked at him and blushed.

"Of course!" You pulled out your phone and you both exchanged numbers. After, you checked the time to see it was now 10:06.

"Oh! I'm sorry Kaneki! I've got to go, I'll see you soon!" You said as you quickly shook his hand.

"Oh, okay, bye Y/N!" You quickly ran out of the cafe. As you ran down the steps, you bumped into a boy about the same age as you and Kaneki, with blonde hair and headphones around his neck. You quickly apologised but didn't have time to say anything else. You continued to run. You thought to yourself as you ran, book in hand, of Kaneki. His straight black hair and innocence. You checked your phone again to see his contact. Although you didn't know anything about him, you added him to your favourites, and proceeded to run to the shop. Hopefully you two would become friends quickly.

>Kaneki's Perspective<

You looked through the window to see Y/N running quickly away. You smiled as you hoped to be able to read the book and see them again. Just as you walked further into the shop, Hide hit your back.

"Oi Kaneki! The cutest person just ran into me! They had one of those books you like in their hand and their voice was really sweet! They seemed to be in a rush though, hopefully not to another boy! Maybe they're a regular..." He elbowed you as he said the last sentence. You knew he was talking about Y/N, but you decided not to say anything in case he thought you liked her.

"Great, can we sit down now?" You said, as you walked towards your table.

"Yeah. If they're taken though, the cute waitress still works here! Hello!" He waved to the purple haired girl, who instinctively turned around.

"Come on, Hide!" You quietly shouted, as you took your phone out to look at Y/N's contact. Hopefully you two would become friends quickly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I hope you enjoyed this! I didn't name the book because I didn't have any good names in my head /.\ Also, I apologise if you're reading this on a mobile device and have a couple lines of those lines ^ as I'm writing on a laptop and don't know how many split the paragraphs by just one line!

Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely Valentines Day (or Netflix Day) and had lots of food (because lets be honest I just ate all day so)!
