MARY'S POV
My arm stretches out to find the spot next to me bare. I open my eyes, lazily.
"Kevin?", I mumble.
He's not there. I sit up in bed and strech my arms out. I can hear his parents downstairs. Scared, I clutch the piece of fabric to my bare chest. Shit. Do his parents know I'm here? Maybe, but I'm not very sure they'll care. They're pretty laid back and I'm actually really close with his mom.
I grab my clothes off of the ground, put them back on and head towards the bathroom. On my way, I run into his mother; I stop in my tracks and cringe. But she just smiles and waves, as if she's really not surprised to see me.
After my shower, I walk downstairs and into the kitchen, pouring myself a bowl of cereal and taking a seat next to Celia, Kevin's little sister, who was playing with her stuffed dog. Kevin doesn't pay much attention to her, but I absolutely adore her. She's so sweet.
"Mary, you're my friend!", she says and hugs me and I hug her back.
Suddenly, Kevin walks up to us and loudly sets his bag down. It was his bow and arrow. he practices at our school, but it surprises me that he's even allowed because after all of the school shootings, our school is extremely strict on any threatening things on campus.
"Good Morning.", he says in a sullen voice.
Something's wrong. Something's very wrong. He's acting so different. The alarms bells are so loud, that it prompts me to ask,"What's wrong?"
He looks at me with such hatred in his eyes that it takes me back,"Nothing...babe."
Ok. What the hell is going on?! I was about to say something else when I remembered that I forgot my backpack in the shack.
Without saying anything else, I go outside to the shack and get my backpack, but not before my eyes notice something very peculiar.
It's Kevin's bow. Wait. But I though that his bow was in his bag.
Ok, think, Mary, think. If it isn't his bow then it must be,"His crossbow...", I whisper to myself.
Oh my god.
I rush back into the house and notice that no one is in the kitchen. Except for Kevin's bag. Quietly, but quickly I walk over there and zip it open. The shiny, wooden and metal weapon takes my breath away; along with it was about 30 silver arrows.
Oh my god, this isn't for practice. I know Kevin well enough to know that this is for something else.
He's about to go on a massacre.
I cover my mouth and gasp when I feel hands moving under my shirt and grab my waist. They turn me around to make me look into the eyes of my deranged boyfriend.
"Kevin, let me go!", I wriggle out of his grasp,"Why the hell do you have your crossbow?! You'll get expelled if they catch you with it!"
"I'm pretty sure that after today, I'll be a lot more than just expelled.", he says.
I was right all along. There's something wrong with him. And even though I knew it, I was too smitten to believe it.
He begins to walk towards me until he corners me against a wall.
Then, quick as a flash, he covers my mouth and nose with a dam rag. I scream and try to wriggle out of his grasp, but his hold on me is tight. The strong scent of chloroform drifts into me. And within seconds, my screams turn into whimpers and pleads. But my mind turns hazy and I drift off into blackness.
--------------------------------------------------hours later------------------------------------------------------------------
I find myself waking up in darkness. My head is aching and the simple act of standing up makes me dizzy.
I'm in the kitchen and it's totally dark. Didn't anymore find me here?
Pulling myself into a standing position, I run outside, but stumble and fall on the ground. My hand reaches my back pocket. I have 20 missed calls. All from my parents.
My finger shakes as I hit redial.
My mom picks up on the 2nd ring and talks so fast, I can barely understand her. She says that there was a massacre at Gladstone High School. Shocked, I don't even say anything for the first few seconds. But I quickly tell her I'm fine and dash off.
I go though the woods and sprint as fast as I can.
'He did not, he did not', I think to myself. I quickly get to our school in 5 minutes; I'm out of breath and so tired, but still lift my head up to look at the police cutting the kryptonite bike locks...
....The same ones Kevin bought a week ago.
"No....", I whisper as I clutch my stomach, feeling as if I'm about to throw up. He did do it.
As soon as the locks are cut, Kevin walks out with such audacity, but calmly puts his hands up and gets on the ground. They pin him down to the cop car and handcuff him. He makes eye contact with someone else, who I make out to be his mother, and then turns towards me. He smirks, noticing what he accomplished. They put him in the car and he turns around in his seat to look at me one more time.
Immediately after this, 10 girdies come out of the school. Arrows pierced in every body. 9 are dead. And 1, his name is Sueddo, has 2 arrows impaled in his knees; squirming in pain.
I fall on my knees, put my head in my hands and screamed as loud as I could.
