Twenty Three: The Real Neverland

Adam's POV

Me and my brother climbed to the familiar spring in silence. If this plan succeeds it has to happen fast I won't last long outside of Neverland not without my medicine. The one Dani stole. James reached the top first and filled a bottle with the magic water then gave it to me.

"We won't have much time but it should keep you alive for awhile."

"James, if something goes wrong-"

"Hey don't think like that, it'll be fine. We get a shadow, create a portal, stop the idiots from declaring war, then come back here. Easy." He smiled throwing his arm over my shoulder.

"I know it's just.. I want you to know-"

"Tell me when we get back, okay?" James' voice is hard and shaky.

"Okay." "Don't lose the bottle butterfingers." He joked changing the seriousness of our conversation.

I laugh shaking my head. "Which one of us can actually use magic genius?" I flick my finger causing the waterfall to spray on James who begun chasing me down the mountain. Waiting for us at the bottom was Aeris, Larissa, Raevanna and Rufio all wearing the same concerned expression.

"You got it?" Aeris asked. To reassure her I held up the bottle shaking it. "And that will keep you alive?"

"Yeah. I'll be fine."

"It's settled." I can see right pass James' smile, "let's go catch a shadow."

Dani's POV:

The Enchanted Forest was quiet breath taking plus it was surreal to be somewhere other then Neverland. I took a deep breath savoring the cool air when I got light headed. Strong arms rested on my shoulders allowing my body to fall back against his for support. "You alright?"

I nod but I feel sick to my stomach and my head is pounding.. Must be a side effect to Adam's medicine. "What's the plan Pan?"

"That tall, flashy, over decorated castle is where we will find Henry and his over complicated family." I take in the building he's pointing. It's huge and lightened up like a Christmas tree. An explosive sound startled me.

Taken off guard I held Pan's hands around me tightly. His chuckle in my ear relaxed me. "Those are just fireworks love, nothing to be afraid of."

"I-I wasn't afraid."

"Clearly." Peter teases nibbling my ear. "It seems they're having some sort of celebration."

"Hmph, and they didn't invite us?"

"That's fine by me, I do enjoy crashing a party more than actually being invited to one." Peter twirled me while his free hand created green smoke which consumed my body. When it vanished I looked down.

"Wow." Was all I could say about the red dress I was now wearing that hugged tightly to my waist and ruffled out at the bottom, I also seemed to be wearing a cat like black mask. "What's this?"

"A disguise, no offense Amara but you kinda stuck out."

With a smirk I motion my hand in the sky changing his attire like he'd done mine.
I must say Peter Pan in a suit made me grin widely and caused some very distracting thoughts.

He outstretched his arms. "I look ridiculous."

"You look dashing."

"You're just being sweet."

"No really and if we weren't on a time period," I wrap my arms around Pan's neck whispering some of the sexual ideas I had running in my mind.

"Then we better hurry and get that heart." Peter grabbed my hips then crashed his lips on mine, bitting my lower lip as we pulled apart.
Rumple and the rest of his happy family won't know what hit them. I will have my revenge, I will take away everything he loves like he did to me when he ripped Henry's heart out of Pan and killed him.

The castle was even bigger up close, wide doors way to opening. Oh Charmings, your friendly gestures will be the end of you. Other guest wearing extravagant clothing entered with oblivious smiles.

"Shall we my love?" Pan asked holding his arm out for me.

"I thought you'd never ask." I intertwined our arms and allowed him to lead us inside where a knight greeted us.

"Invitations please."

"Of course." With a sweat smile I used my magic to lift Sir Blondie up in the air and tossed him like a rag doll inside the castle.
Immediately all cheerful music stopped and the people stopped conversing with one another.

Sitting in a thrown was King Charming and Snow White, to their side was a boy with raven dark hair and piercing blue orbs, I did not recognize, I'm assuming their son. Every curious and spiteful gaze fell upon me sadly I didn't see the boy we are looking for I could care less about the rest. If Rumple and Henry were here then it'd be a bloodbath.

"Who are you?" Charming questions readying his sword to strike.

Ignoring the outburst, Peter stood in front of Charming, Snow, and their son, blocking their path. I strut in front of Hook. Seeing my brother for the first time in ages, why not give him a proper hello? "I must say I really did feel quiet distress with not receiving an invitation, we do get messages in Neverland."

Killian was quickest to react aiming his sword at my throat. "Dani."

"Brother. Long time no see." I laughed wickedly loving the echo.

"I wouldn't do that, mate." Peter growls appearing behind Killian pinning his own hook against his throat.

"Got one of your lost boys to help, you're pathetic Dani.. Haven't we been through this before? Your lost boys can't stop me." He motioned to elbow Pan but Peter was quicker. While releasing Hook, Pan kicked him on the ground then removed his satin red mask I conjured to match my dress.

"Insulting a girl, really? Especially your own sister! Bad form, Captain." Pan smirked taking his place beside me with an amused crooked grin.

Loud gasp came from all around. "Don't seem so surprised laddies after all, Peter Pan never fails. Now who do we kill first?"

Raven haired boy, with a battle cry, charged and Pan with a sword not a wise decision.
Peter used magic to swipe the sword away then begun to choke the boy as he floated off of his royal feet.

"Enough please!" King Charming yells.

"I like you begging, do it again." Pan is using his murder voice.

"Please Peter...we'll give you whatever you want." Snow White joins in.

"Alright." Peter snaps his fingers and the prince disappears leaving behind green smoke.
"Don't worry he's not dead just temporarily misplaced..for now."

"We want Henry, boy-he's probably older now, brown hair and an annoying sense of self righteousness. The saviors son."

"You're insane if you think we'd give him to you." Snow White snaps.

Peter grabbed the nearest civilian and snapped his neck with ease. He turned to the Charmings chuckling.

"Oh I'm sorry that's just not the answer we were looking for.. Let's try again, Dani."

I grabbed a young girl in a pretty pink gown.

"Alright! We'll get you Henry."

"Great. In the meantime I've always wanted a castle." Green energy forms around Peter's palms and I know he's planning something big. "I think we'll take this one." Pan raises his hands in the air and transports everyone outside besides he and I. Pan yells something about hurrying up before he returns to the ball room where he falls to his knees.

"Peter!" Immediately I'm knelt beside him.

"I'm fine just a tad dizzy."

"That was a lot of power you used Pan.."

"Don't worry about me, my Queen..worry about yourself." Pan wiped away a tear I hadn't known formed. It wasn't until I saw his thumb that I realized it wasn't water leaving my eyes, it was blood. My vision begun to blur and Peter's voice grew distant.

I could see a body form behind Pan looking like Rumple. No no this scene is all to familiar!
"Peter!" I shout shooting a fire ball behind him.

Peter's POV:

Dani shouts my name before shooting a fucking fire ball right past me. I turn to see what she was aiming for but nothing is there.
I look back at Dani seeing pure fear in her chocolate brown eyes which formed tears.
"Dani, look at me." I take her hand in my palms an remove the mask."Sshh it's alright I'm here love."

For a moment the fear vanishes but not for longer. "Get away from me Rumplestiltskin!" She shouts shoving my hands away.

Me, Rumple? Ha! I am far better looking.
Despite her struggle I pin her down. "What magic has you?"

Amara sends me flying across the room.

"You took away the only happiness I've ever known now I'm gonna take away yours."

"Dani wait!" It's too late. She vanished out of sight going god knows where.

Adam's POV

The dark figure flew in front of James and I. "Come on shadow we need new recruits, just go get some."

"Peter said no one or anything is to leave Neverland until he returns."

"We thought you'd say that. Aeris now!"

The brunette came out of the bushes zapping the shadow with energy and holding it there.
"Are you sure this will work?"

"Shadows are a part of you, they also work as a doorway to their other half." I hiss between clutched teeth as I assist Aeris with my magic. The shadow let out an inhuman noise before it converted into a portal.

"When we jump through this we'll be exactly were Pan is so prepare for anything. James, go first."

"See ya on the other side brother." James says before jumping through. Next was Aeris, then Larissa, then Raevanna.

"Come on Rufio, let's go." I urge Rufio along but he stands alone.

"You go Alec, someone needs to clean up the mess here!"

"Are you sure?"

"Neverland's my home, go find your own."

With a nod I jump through surprised to find myself in a fancy castle. Peter was instantly on defense upon our sudden appearance.

"Where's Dani?" Aeris asks.

"I-I don't know. One moment she was here and then she called me Rumple and vanished." Peter spoke in huffs.

James and I shared a look before he spoke.
"It's the side effect of Adam's drug, she's having hallucinations."

"I probably could have warned her if you know she didn't knock me out!"

"You guys have to find her!" Peter orders.

"Your girlfriend asshole, you find her." James growls.

"She's out there drugged up and on a suicide mission. She will die James. I have to wait here for Henry."

"Right it's always down to that isn't it? Doing what's best for Dani or what's best for you."
"I am doing this for Dani. She needs me, I love her."

"Just not enough to risk losing your eternity a second time."

"James, I'll go after Dani, you stay here and make sure Pan doesn't murder anyone." I walked out of the castle only to be followed.

Quickly I spun around on my heels preparing to hit James and make him stay only to stare into Aeris' green orbs which were filled with determination. "I'm coming with you."

"No you're not." I refused.

"She's my mom Adam, I can track her faster. I'm coming with you." With a reluctant nod, Aeris and I head off to look for Dani.

A vibrant purple color shoots up in the sky.
"I think we just found her."

"Something tells me we aren't the only ones." Attempting to ignore the pain I felt in my chest I grabbed Aeris' hand and teleported us to the source of the explosion of power.

Dani was shooting aimlessly at trees.
"They're dead everyone's dead! I gave up everything for him and you took him away!" She shouts shooting energy at another tree causing it to explode. "My baby is gone and so is he!" Damn I wonder if I was this bad when I was hallucinating..

"Dani, you have to come back with me." Aeris motions to step forward but I grab her arm.

"Wow, you don't just approach crazy, ya gotta let crazy approach you." I advise Aeris with careful eyes.

"Wise words Adam, but I don't think we have time for that." She takes little steps toward Dani.

"Dani, it's me Aeris, Peter isn't dead he's here. I am here."

In a flash, Dani is in front of Aeris gripping her throat tightly. "I won't listen to your lies shadow."

"Dani please! It's Aeris, your daughter!"

I could see Dani grip Aeris' throat tighter than before.

"Mom.." Aeris choked out.

That one word brought Dani back to reality. She released Aeris and then hugged her. "I am so sorry Aeris- I didn't-I"

Aeris laughed a little, wrapping her arms around her mother. "You didn't kill me so that's a start."

"What a touching moment." A voice says from the darkness. I'm still frozen in my spot so I can't move. Regina comes forward and if looks could kill I'd be a dead boy.

With a flick of her wrist Dani and Aeris go flying hard against the trees. "I've been waiting for your return." She says circling me.

"Let me guess is this because I crushed your daughters heart..literally." That remark earned a fist in my gut.

"I am going to enjoy killing you and then your brother. He's at the castle right?" Her laugh chills me. "Bad place to be right now. You see ever since your disappearing act we've been waiting and preparing for something big to happen."

"What have you done?"

"The better question would be what have you done?" She raises her fist aiming for my heart but a force pushes me out of the way and on to the ground.

I look up seeing Aeris in my earlier spot. Luckily Regina stopped herself before ripping out the wrong heart.

"Foolish girl stay out of this."

"No way in hell old lady."

A ball of fire hits Regina in her back breaking her focus away from Aeris and now on Dani.
"This time when I kill you, both you and your psychotic boyfriend stay dead."

"Not in our nature."

As Dani and Regina fought, Aeris rushed to my side. "I'm alright, i'm alright," I tell her, wiping away blood dripping from my nose.

Behind Aeris, I see Dani look at us with worry and that was the only distraction Regina needed. The formal evil queen plunged her fist straight through Dani's chest ripping the girls heart out.

"Time to kill two birds with one stone." She says before disappearing in purple smoke.

"Okay everyone needs to stop that it can't be healthy for the environment." I say pulling myself up with Aeris' help.

Dani isn't dead and I don't know if that's good or bad. Regina has her heart which mean she can control her. "We have to get back to the castle."

Peter's POV

Two pair of foot steps come marching through the castle doors for the boys sake one better be Henry. A man around 20-ish resembles to the truest believer and the dark one stroll before me with angry eyes.

"I thought you were dead." Henry spits out.

"I get that a lot." I snap.

"Daddy!" Raevanna runs into Rumple's arms.

"Raevanna, I'm so glad you're alright. Your mother is waiting for you outside." Taking the hint his daughters grabs her other friend and the two gals exit the castle.

"It's funny isn't it?"

"What is?" Rumple questions watching me very carefully like I'm a rapid dog that may strike at any second.

"That our daughters are so close. Aeris is one of Raevanna's best friends."

"Where's Ashton?" Henry interrupts our father dispute.

"Safe." I snap my finger and the boy appears, "see the prince is all nice and cozy...unconscious, but alive. Now for what I came for." I appear in front of Henry and attempt to rip his heart out but I- I can't. Rumple must have put a spell over his heart.

"How clever."

"Hey Pan, if you want the Heart of a Truest Believer so bad, take one." Regina manifested tossing an organ at Henry who in return shoved the thing into my chest.

An immeasurable amount of power pumped through me, it was so addicting I didn't question where it came from that was until I realized Henry wasn't passed out dead on the floor.

"Hook told us how Henry wasn't the only truest believer. " Regina says.

"You should know Pan, magic comes with a price and so does your eternity."

What the bloody hell are they rambling about?
Just like that it hit me like a bullet train and the strong heart I now had stopped for a few seconds. No no, this can't be happening. This heart it can't be. It can't be Dani's. "What have you done!" I demand causing the whole castle to shake.

"You did this the moment you fell for my sister on Neverland." Hook dared to step close to my face, "Dani was dead the moment she fell in love with you. That's why I told her to stay with me!"

"Everyone knows Peter Pan doesn't get a happy ending. He gets an eternity of being a lost boy." Henry states.

With a fierce cry I fly out of the castle in search for my queen. The night makes it hard to see but I catch glimpse of a figure in the woods, laying down wearing a satin colored dress.
Immediately I fly down picking the angel up in my arms cradling her body against me.

"No, you're not dead. Dani, please open your eyes." I moved her hair out of her face gently stroking her cheek. "You have to open your eyes. We have to go home and be with our daughter remember? Open your eyes and we can be a family like you wanted." Tears streamed down my cheek. "Please, I need you."

My fist is glowing and I use magic to rip the heart out but it doesn't work. I don't understand why won't it work!

"I enchanted it, Pan." Regina must have followed after.

Protectively I hold Dani's lifeless body against me. "What are you waiting for? Kill me." The witch smiles. "Kill me!"

"Death is too kind for you." Rumple comes from behind me and puts a magic represent bracelet on my wrist. "I'm thinking a nice stone cell in the Charming's castle for you to live out a life sentence. You being immortal now, I'm sure you'll have a lot to think about."

Fucking bastards. Hate boils my blood as I take one last look at Dani's body before they have me dragged away. "I will kill all of you! Do you hear me?!?" I shout behind the bars. "Do you hear me?!?"

Aeris' POV

The castle was empty, dark. The stone cold walls reflected what I felt after Adam teleported me and James away. I didn't want to leave them, my parents. Just as I imagined I was finally bonding with them, they were gone. Dani was missing, and Peter had been taken by the guards. I heard him screaming cursed words to them. He had lost.

From the outside of the castle walls, the twins and I spotted two guards dragging a body to the back gardens. Following the men, we waited for them to leave. As I approached the cadaver, the pit in my stomach twisted up in knots.

It was my mother.

Tears began to sting in my jade eyes. She was dead. They had killed her. Falling to my knees, I held her lifeless body and hid my face into the crook of her neck. Soon enough, I was screaming. Adam kneeled on the side of me, sympathetically rubbing my shoulder.

"Guys, we have to move," James' voice echoed through the gardens as the increasing footsteps of guards heading in our direction.

"Aeris," Adam whispered in my ear. "We have to leave." I barley heard him, for my cries were blocking out my sound. "Aeris, come on!"

Before I knew it, I was forcibly being ripped by Adam away from my mother's body. A flash of light appeared as James opened a portal. The last thing I saw was my mother's body hit the ground.

And it was all over.

after two long years in the making,
this is the last chapter of the Wonderstruck Series.
i am so sad it has come to an end. and who knows? maybe i'll come back and write a new story! for now, this is the end.
