Chapter 14
Aeris' POV
Something about this island gave me chills. As Adam and I hoisted the small rowboat on the shores of the Skull-shape Rock, something about the sound of the way the water below the rocks trickled into the water in tiny drips freaked me out. The only light in the island were torches Adam lit as we continued to walk into the Rock more.
I tried to keep my cool though, being scared in front of Adam wouldn't cause a whole lot of good.
Adam stopped as he entered a giant area. I looked out to see that I was looking out of either the Skull's eye or nostril. But that wasn't the biggest problem at the moment.
I just wanted this spell done. Then finally, me, Larissa, and Raevanna could go home. I could see Roland and Robin again. As soon as this is over, the sooner I could forget about this ever happening.
"Alright, what's first?" I turned on my heel back towards Adam. He spread a few objects on the floor. Some I recognized as the Spellbook, the scroll of the actual spell, the Black Fairy's Wand, and that strange small bag that Kyle had.
I looked up, and to my surprise, sat a large hourglass. The contents inside were a golden, sparkly liquid. From the top, the liquid was almost gone. I was taken back by the hourglass. Was it magic? Why was it here?
"What's the hourglass for?" I questioned, keeping my eyes locked on the liquid trickling down to the bottom quickly.
"It's the magic that causes your dreams. Because most of the magic is at the bottom, it causes what is not meant to be felt able to be felt, such as pain coming from dreams." Adam explains, drawing a small dagger from his belt pocket. He dipped it in some sort of red liquid, and then set it down.
I reached out to touch it, but a strong grip on my wrist pulled me away. "Don't touch it!" Adam practically yelled, "With one single motion, the hourglass will explode, killing us all because it's balance will be disturbed."
I nodded, understanding.
He motioned me over, holding a dagger in his left arm. "Sorry about this," after he said those three words, I screamed in the pain of Adam cutting my hand. The blood started tricking out of my palm, but Adam caught the red liquid in a wooden bowl.
"What the hell?" I snapped, clutching my bloody, cut hand cradled in the other. I cringed at the pain, glaring at the dark eyed boy.
He ripped my shirt from the middle section down, leaving my stomach in plain sight, a once good black shirt now a crop top.
I winced as he tied the black cloth around my hand. This would help stop the bleeding, but couldn't he just use his magic to poof a bandage or something?
"Sorry," Adam said with a huff, tightening the half of the shirt one last time, "about the cut, and you know..." He examines my exposed stomach, and chuckles, "but I am not sorry about that one."
I scoff. "Whatever, lets just get the stupid spell done."
Adam nods, sitting down. I sit on the rocky ground across from him, all of the supplies in the middle between us.
"Close your eyes." Adam commands.
I nod, obliging. When my vision turns dark, Adam begins to mumble something in a foreign language that I cannot make out.
Minutes have gone by, and I was growing bored. With my sense of adventure just pushing me too far, I opened one eye to see Adam holding a circular, red, beating object.
I gasped, then screamed, shooting up from the ground. "Why the hell do you have a heart?! Is it yours?!?"
Adam stood up, clearly pissed. "No," he began to reason, "In order to complete the spell, I had to sacrifice the thing I loved most."
