The clouds had cleared and the moon was straight above, its cold light spattering in through the leaves of the trees. It was bright enough for Bree to see by, but also her eyes had now become accustomed to the darkness all around her.Certainly she did not have the unparalleled night vision of a vampire, and this worried her.She was wearing a dark shirt and jeans so she would be less visible in the night. At least she had that going for her.She had the feeling that the vampire that was hunting her was very powerful and that three hours would be way too little time for her to get very far from him.Plus, she had no idea where she was.She had no idea what time it was.She had no idea what direction was what so she just ran aimlessly, her hands extended in front of her to protect her from any branches or brush that could slap her in the face or poke her eyes out.

Bree then had the sudden fear that she would run into a big spider web.It was silly, she knew, to fear this. There were so many other things to be afraid of.Wild animals such as wolf and grizzly bear roamed these parts. She did not know in what direction the mountain range was but her general pace was flat so far, with the exceptional small inclines and declines in this rocky woods.

Bree stumbled then on a loose root that had raised itself from the dirt. She uttered a cry as she lost her footing, her fall was broken when she cracked her head against a rock and she feared that she had cut herself and was bleeding.Any blood outside of her body would smell much stronger and she didn’t know how far away a vampire could smell blood. It reminded her of a shark. She had read once that they could smell blood a mile away. She hoped that she was more than a mile from the vampire but she feared that she may have run in circles.Everything looked the same in the dark.

Bree took this moment to rest. Her body ached and her feet were blistered and probably bleeding. Her legs would not go anymore. Her muscles ached and her lungs burned. Her throat felt like it was on fire. She wiped her head with her hand, which came away streaked with blood. So, she had cut herself. Please don’t let there be any blood on the ground! It would leave a trail that would lead straight to her. Please God, I am so afraid.Oh please, I am so scared! Bree examined the rock that she had hit her head on to see if there was any blood on it.She could not see any.

She sat against the rock and looked at the moon to see if it had moved since the last time she had looked at it.It hadn’t really. Two things could come of this. The good one was that not much time had passed, giving her more of a head start from her predator. The bad thing was that she still had no sense of direction and could not be sure that she was traveling in a straight line. She could be headed right back to the vampire and not know it.Maybe if I stop running and look for a place to hide… no, that was ludicrous. He’d smell her out and find her for sure. She had to keep moving. She had to make it to daybreak or he would get her.She had to.Somehow she just had to make it out of this alive.

Instead of getting back to her feet and moving on, Bree began to cry.She sobbed until her eyes were swollen and her nose was completely blocked. She didn’t want the vampire to find her.He hated her.He had said that he would kill her and painfully so.If she was destined to meet a vampire, why couldn’t she have met one of the good ones?If vampires existed, then there were good ones. There had to be.There must be some vampires that allowed themselves to be turned for the love of another vampire. They’d be happy. They wouldn’t kill savagely.Maybe they wouldn’t kill at all.Maybe they would feed humanely; it was possible that feeding could be pleasurable to the human as well…

Why does he hate me?What have I done so wrong for him to hate me so much? Bree whispered her thoughts aloud to a god that seemed to have forgotten her.She felt so alone. She was cold and terribly hungry. She had nothing anymore. No family, no home… nothing.People in her predicament sometimes committed suicide. But Bree did not want to die.She wanted to live, she had hope that she could make a life for herself. Her mother had always told her to never give up hope. Her mother had told her to go on and make it.Her mother believed in her.She was the only one who ever did. Bree hoped that people could not see down from heaven. How could heaven be heaven if you had to watch your only daughter get eaten alive?
