After getting a more detailed tour of the engineering bay and a project to work on, I quickly got into a focused work rhythm. I worked for hours while toning out everything going on around me. On Earth many said they got ‘in the zone’ from doing all sorts of activities; for me, it was work. Once I was focused it was like the only things in the world were my ideas and the task in front of me.
Somewhat reluctantly, I took a short break for lunch before heading straight back to work. While I was working, a young Asian woman, also in the engineering department, came over to me.
The woman had long, curled black hair and brown eyes. Her skin was pale, but it was without a blemish. I was an average five-foot-seven-inches but I towered over the petite woman.
“Hello,” she said shyly, “You’re new here right?”
“Yeah,” I replied with a smile, “I’m Sephora, what’s your name?”
“I’m Tyria.”
“Tyria… I really like that!”
“Thanks,” she mumbled. “I just wanted to make sure you were getting the hang of everything.”
“I am thanks,” I said and then thought for a second. I couldn’t contain my curiosity any longer, “But actually, I’ve been working with that glowing liquid all day and I don’t really know what it is… Why do I keep seeing it everywhere?”
“Oh, you mean Tamine?”
“Yeah! So that’s what they were talking about during the summary this morning...”
“Yes. Tamine has very special properties. The glow comes from the electrical current it carries and the excess energy constantly gives off light, but not heat. It can be used to power almost anything. It also has abilities that keep us from getting common sicknesses. I actually had the privilege to study it when its powers were first being discovered. It truly is an amazing substance!”
“Wow that is incredible!” I said dumbfounded, “Not only is it a stable energy for machines, but it can also help in the medical field… amazing! Thanks for telling me… Hopefully I will be able to make more progress now,” I said and laughed.
“Of course,” she said with a self-conscious smile. “Well, I’ll let you get back to work now. See you later.”
Feeling reenergized, I got back to work. I kept at it until someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around and was surprised to see Rexan.
“It’s time for late day meal,” he told me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, still surprised he was here.
“Oh, haha,” he laughed, “I guess I never told you two, but I’m also the head of the programming department.”
“Wow! That’s awesome!” I smiled. “I also do a bit of programming.”
“Well, whenever you need a project, head on over. But for now, it’s time to eat!” His eyes glittered with passion.
I laughed at him. He reminded me of a child that could only think about food. “Okay, time to eat.”

Honoring Rexan’s wish, we sat at the table where Tyzon, Talon, and him all regularly sat. Tyzon sat quietly, appearing to be immersed in his own thoughts, while Rexan talked excitedly and Talon listened halfheartedly, adding something every so often.
Noting that Tyzon was ignoring them, Rexan asked, “What’s up? You haven’t said a word.”
“Huh?” he said shaking his head, “Sorry, I guess I’m a bit tired tonight.”
