I released my death grip on my sword and quickly wiped my sweaty hands on my legs before re-gripping the hilt. I was nervous, but suddenly my heart slowed to a confident beat due to the adrenaline rushing through every muscle in my body. I watched and calculated carefully as one of the robots surged towards me with its own sword. With all of my might, I lifted my sword and slammed it into the body of the robot while pivoting out of the way. The blow had done nothing.

Great… I thought. Between swings, I quickly looked at the others. Lexy and Aris had teamed together against a robot, Tyzon fought another, and Rexan was taking on two at the same time. This doesn’t look good.

I reluctantly let myself trust that they would be able to handle themselves and I turned my focus back to the robot in front of my. I studied its form and design, searching for a weakness. The body appeared very solid, as well as the connections between the robot’s body and his limbs. But then I saw it; on the back of the robot’s neck the connection between it and the rest of his back seemed not as strong as the rest.

I’ve got to hit there! I thought and plotted how I would accomplish this. I backed away a bit and then waited until the robot charged at me once again. I timed it carefully and then did as I had before; I swung hard at the robot’s midsection and then pivoted out of the way. This time though, as the robot fell forward a bit, I whipped back around and brought my sword down hard on the robot’s neck. The robot clumsily fell to the floor before its body spasmed with a bolt of electricity and then slumped once again. I did it... My eyes widened in joyful surprise.“Guys! I know what to-”

I was suddenly interfered by a cry of pain. In the corner of her eye, I saw someone fall to the floor. Immediately I turned to see Rexan on his knees, clutching his stomach. My bliss turned to immediate dread. Aris rushed over to him and I saw a robot charge towards her in slow motion. NO! I thought. I sprinted with all my might and slashed the robot, just in time. I sighed heavily in relief, but then I remembered Rexan.

“Aris! Is he okay?” I asked her quickly, while still keeping a lookout.

“If we don’t get him out of here, he could bleed to death!” Aris said in obvious distress.

“What are we going to do...?” I asked helplessly. Even with my method, Thaeoul would just send more and more robots until they were worn out. If they didn’t think of something quick, they would all end up in a bad place, especially Rexan.

*Cecil*

“Do you think they’ll be alright?” Malina said looking up at Zander while his arms were wrapped around her.

He looked down at her with a kind face. “They’d better be…”

I watched the two of them and wondered if Tyzon and the others were in trouble. I knew my assignment was here, but I was starting to get a bad feeling about this whole thing. Goosebumps climbed up my arm as a thought struck me.

“Zander, do you think you could hold down the fort here for a bit?” I asked suddenly determined.

Zander looked shock but then recovered and answered, “Sure. Can we help?”

“No, I’ve got to do this myself. I’ll try to be back soon.”

“Alright. We’ll be waiting.”

*Zander*

I watched Cecil walk away over the hill, heading closer to the building. What is he doing? I wondered, I guess we’ll just have to trust his judgment. I looked down at Malina, who was in my arms, and hoped that everyone would get out of this situation unharmed, but I wasn’t feeling very optimistic.
