This time, Lexy insisted that the guys go on ahead and we would follow. Once they left she told us it was for “dramatic effect”. Aris rolled her eyes playfully at the comment, and I was feeling more and more nervous as the time to leave approached. Just as we turned to head out, I took a quick glance at my final appearance.
Aris, Blythe, and Lexy had all worked diligently on my hair which was now pulled half-way up with my bangs left down. Silvery shades of eye shadow covered my eyelids that created a smoky, cat-like look. Mascara enhanced my already long lashes, or so people had told me, making them look darker. Aris convinced me to wear sheer black tights with my dress and Lexy had insisted on a pair of violet blue stilettos. I felt out of character, but at the same time I felt good; I hardly ever dressed up, but I suddenly felt a boost of confidence.
“You ready?” Aris asked.
I hadn’t realized the others were almost leaving me behind. “Oh… yeah, sorry.” I quickly followed after and we made our way to the club. The other girls happily chatted on the way, except for Sarin and Tyria who quietly talked together, and I stayed silent, captivated by my own thoughts. I hoped the night wouldn’t become awkward.
When we finally entered the club, I felt even more nervous. At the sight of a group of six good looking girls walking in, many turned to stare, while others were too busy enjoying themselves. Feeling the eyes on me and the others, my face colored. Getting attention was definitely not the ‘norm’ for me. Led by Lexy, we headed over to the table where we sat before, the first time Aris and I had gone to the club.
Sitting at the table, as usual, was Tyzon, Rexan, and Talon. I watched them look up to see all of us and they looked surprised. The guys were all wearing fitted slacks and dress shirts with the sleeves rolled up to their elbows. I thought it was odd to see them in clothing that was so similar to guys on Earth, but in a way it fit them: especially Tyzon, which I found surprising.
I met Tyzon’s eyes for a second and I could have sworn I had seen a bit of happy surprise in his eyes, but I tried desperately to ignore it. I figured I was seeing things.
He quickly looked back to Lexy, who said, “Who wants to dance first?” She put her hands on her hips and gave them a disapproving frown when none of them volunteered. “Well, never mind then.” She turned away and left the rest of us girls standing at the table, unsure of what we should do.
Suddenly, Zena walked up and cut in right in front of them. “Hi Tyzon,” she said with the most perfect smile Sephora had ever seen. She was wearing a very short, streamlined black dress, high heels, and a slick ponytail. “Do you want to dance with me?”
“Not right now,” he replied, rejecting her offer.
“Oh, okay well I’ll just stay here and talk with you.”
I almost laughed aloud when I saw an annoyed expression cross his face. Zena just never gets a hint, does she? I thought.
“Let’s go dance,” Aris suddenly suggested to all of us. “See you later,” she said to the party at the table.
The five of us left made our way to the dance floor and found Lexy already dancing away in the middle of the floor. We made our way over; Aris even convinced Sarin and Tyria to join us. We danced to several songs before a slower song came on and a large crowd evacuated the dance floor.
Suddenly, as I was about to head to a table and sit down, a young man approached me. “Would you like to dance?” he asked.
