(His point of view)

I am lying upon the soft blankets of grass just beneath our apple tree. The soothing breeze from the nearby ocean wafts over my face, filling my senses with much needed tranquility.

I sigh, resting my eyes as I take in the peaceful morning sun that splays across parts of my body. The subtle heat from its rays only strengthen my inner peace. But that peace is shattered instantly, as I fly forward to an upright sitting position.

"Christine!"

The pain rattles within my bones as I remember that I am here, underneath the shade of our tree. Alone. Completely and painstakingly alone. She is gone, and I am all alone.

I clutch at my stomach, heaving from my torment.

"Even in my dreams, I cannot escape the fact that she has been taken away from me."

A gentle laughter startles me, halting my rising anxiety. I look over to my left in the direction of the ocean, where I catch a brief glimpse of chocolate brown locks disappearing behind a nearby rose bush.

"Christine!" I shout, jumping to my feet. "Is that you?" I hear the laughter once more. It sounds as though it is moving further away from me, beckoning me to chase after it.

I take off in a sprint in its direction, desperately hoping that it is she who is responsible for this wonderful chime of laughter that is now loudly echoing throughout the entirety of the thriving greenery. I follow its trail, panting from anticipation as the sound of the rolling waves becomes increasingly louder.

Finally, I break through the last of the thick foliage, coming to the edge of the shore. The laughter suddenly vanishes, leaving my head filled with nothing but the steady crashing of waves just at my feet. I scan the shoreline, quickly noticing a set of footprints. But much to my dismay, I see that they are much too small to be that of my beloved's. They are quite tiny, seemingly from a small child's.

As I continue to study my surroundings, my eyes follow the tiny prints. They only go so far to my right before disappearing, almost as if whoever it was that left them behind was lifted up into the air right at the water's edge.  I feel my brow creasing in confusion as I begin to slowly follow their trail, allowing my curiosity to get the best of me.

Out of nowhere, I hear the laughter again. It causes me to whip back around, looking in the direction that I had just come from. And there, standing just underneath a lower hanging branch, is Rehema. She is smiling at me so beautifully. The pain rips into me as I am lost within the green of her eyes. They are so much like her Mother's. I desperately want to look away, but for some reason, I cannot.  I can only stare at her, feeling stunned beneath her presence. I quickly take in her small figure, until my eyes fall upon the yellow rose that is tightly clutched within her left hand.

I finally chance a step closer to her before she turns and runs away, giggling.

"Just like your Mother. Always wanting me to chase after you." I have to smile through my agony. But as I am about to take off after her, I hear the faint whisper of another voice. A familiar voice. The one voice, other than Christine's, that I have so longed to hear more than any other in my life. It grows increasingly louder, breathing my name in all its elegant beauty. I turn to face the ocean once more, immediately falling to my knees as I see her figure walking towards me just in the wake of the surf.

"Mother?"

As she draws nearer, I allow my tear filled eyes to soak in every inch of her figure. My beautiful, endearing Mother. The only woman that I have ever loved until I met Christine. The only one who had ever taken the time to understand me, to spend time with me.
