I walked out to the car to help James with the bags.
"So, how the hell did you meet him?" James said.
"Well, I was at work one day, and he just was buying a pair of jeans, then I clocked out and he followed me and asked if we can get coffee," I looked back towards the house where I knew my mom was probably telling Steven some embarrassing childhood story, "and I don't know, we just sorta, clicked."
"Do you love him? How long has it been?" James eyed me, handing me a bag.
"Honestly, I do. I really think I do, theres some indescribable connection that we have. It's scary, actually. And really, It hasn't been that long at all. It's only been about a month." I said.
"Well, damn. He better be good to you, or I'll kick his rock star ass." My brother and I laughed, as he closed the trunk of my car, and we walked inside.

James and I brought the bags up to my room, flicked on the lights, and set the bags down. James then turned to leave.
"Hey, mama Mia, you comin'?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'll be there in a minute." I said, dazed.
I haven't been in this room since I was 18. I'm now almost 22. I walked over to the maple colored desk that was at the far corner of my room, leaning up against the red walls. I looked up at all the pictures I had hanging on the walls, and marveled at the memories. There were photographs of old friends, old letters that I'd taped up there. My old high school varsity letter was hanging on the wall, as well as my old softball jersey. I cringed at the memories that jersey brought me. I had to quit playing after I dislocated my shoulder. I looked to the right of the jersey, and found all of my old volleyball medals hanging up, next to the dream catcher I made so many years ago.
"You really are something." Steven said. I jumped because I didn't notice him come in. He was leaning up against a wall, just watching me. He walked over to me and hugged me from behind, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist. "I'm sorry, Baby, I didn't mean to scare you."
"Oh it's okay, I just didn't see you come in, is all." I smiled. "I'm starving, what do you say we go down stairs and see what my mom made?"
"Anything for you, love." Steven kissed me, and then we walked down the steps and through a short hallway to get into the living room, which was attatched to the kitchen.

"So, Steven, can I just say I love the new album. Some of the stuff on there is so soulful and bluesy. I love it." My dad exclaimed.
"Why thank you Sir." Steven grinned. "It's always great to get feedback on my work. But actually your daughter was the one behind the best song on that album."
"What do you mean?" Dad asked
"Well, she wrote The Grind. It's her song. She asked me to record it and put it on the album, and I just loved it so much, I had to do it." Steven winked at me.
"Damn, I always knew my baby had talent, of course she get's it from me." My dad laughed. "Oh, by the way, Mia, I got you an early Christmas present. you should go downstairs and check it out."
I looked at him quizzically. "Oh-okay" I muttered
I walked down stairs, with my father, and Steven behind me. I flipped on the lights to my enormous basement. Much like the one in my little apartment back in South Carolina, my dad made good use of the space here and built a decent sized, open recording studio in the far corner of our basement. I walked toward the equipment I was so fond of using, all those years ago, when I stopped, and almost fainted.
