Miranda's pov
I wake up when Luke gets here with the horse trailer. I hear him and Jason talking. "I can't believe the first day back together and this happens to her. I'm so mad." Oh man. "Since when did bears live in Texas?" Luke asks. "Something about it escaping from the zoo." I shakily sit up, my back riveting with pain. I find my phone and text him since it hurts to get up.
Jason's pov
My phone vibrates.
M: don't blame yourself. This wasn't your fault!
My eyes go wide. I think she's awake. "I'll see ya in a sec man." I say, waving. He goes to deal with the horses and I walk into the bedroom. Sure enough she's awake and she sets her phone back down. "How ya feelin' hun?" "My back hurts yes but that wasn't your fault. Please don't blame yourself for it." She sits up. "When can we go?" "I... Don't know. The doctor is coming by later to check on ya." I say, sitting down beside her. I turn on the tv. "Luke's gonna move the horses to Nashville." "I missed Nashville. It's been forever since I've been." She mumbles tiredly laying against me. I don't wanna hurt her. She's already back to sleep. So I just sit beside her watching highlights of the game from earlier. Her phone rings but I silence it so it doesn't wake her up. Then I call the number back. "Hello?" "Who's this?" He asks. "Jason. And you are?" "Her brother. Cole." Oh jeez. Her brother never liked me. He thought we were just some summer romance but then that turned into three years before everything hit the fan. "What are you doing with my sister's phone?" "She's asleep right now. I didn't want it to wake her." "Well when she wakes up tell her to call me." "Sure." I hate that guy. I get off the phone as the bell downstairs rings. I walk down and let the doctor in. "She's asleep right now but she did wake up for a few minutes." "That's good. That means it's working." The medicine. We go to her room and he looks at it. "You did great dressing it." I force a smile, standing in the doorway. "Dallas'll have my head if she knew someone else was in her room." I say with a light chuckle. He laughs too. "She was always picky about her room." She groans a little when he touches her back. "Ugh why am I so tired?" She turns over fully awake. "It's from the drugs Doc gave you. It's to help your back." "I'm fine. Stop touchin' me!" She snaps, swatting his hands. I laugh. That same old hothead girl I fell in love with. It was the summer of '05. It was a sweltering day and night. She was rocking front row at a show I had in Dallas.
~flashback~
I just finished singing Johnny Cash when she caught my eye. She was wearing a T-shirt that said 'Fuck you and your city lights. This cowgirl was raised on mud, blood, and beer!' I nearly died laughing reading that. I grabbed her hand and pulled her onstage. "Now this cowgirl is definitely my kinda party!" I say into the mic. "Meet me backstage after the show." I say, giving her a backstage pass. "Ooh totally taking you up on that offer."
*after the show*
I find her after the show leaning up against a classic car, her bell bottom blues making her look so damn good. She had a beer in one hand and the keys to her Lincoln Continental, swinging around on her finger. "Get in cowboy. I'm gonna show you what Dallas is all about." She finished off the can and crushed it under her diamond studded spurred cowgirl boots. "What's the plan?" I ask, climbing in. "You've been mudding before?" She asks. "Sure I have." She laughs and shakes her head. "No you haven't." "Huh? What do you mean?" "You haven't been mudding til you've mudded in Dallas with a decked out four wheeler." I like this. "Alright you show me how a Texan cowgirl does muddin'." She smiles. "Hold on tight." We aren't even out of the parking lot before we're going 100!
~flashback over~
The doctor has left and she's up and getting dressed. "What are you doing?" "Ya can't keep a good dog down." She replies, pulling on a T-shirt slowly to be careful of her back. My eyes go wide realizing it's her fuck you T-shirt! "Oh man, that brings back memories!" I gasp, walking over. "We're going to longhorn steakhouse before we leave." She says. I smile watching her. She's so tiny but don't be fooled. She could beat my ass without even breaking a sweat. "You takin' the reins huh baby?" "You best believe it, Mr. Tall dark and handsome cowboy man." I laugh slightly. "Ok cowboy lady, I'm followin' your lead." She smiles that total turn on smile I love.
~flashback~
We were covered from head to toe in mud. I wiped some out of my eyes and she grabbed my shirt, pulling me close and kissing me. I held tight to the tailgate in total shock. She sits back, smiling flirtatiously at me. "Damn girl you're a real turn on." I say, scratching some caked on dirt off my boot. She stays quiet, with that same smile. "Ok you showed me the life of a Dallas Cowboy. Now I'm gonna show you round a country boy's world." I say, scooting over and planting a kiss on her. The rest was history.
~flashback over~
We walk to my truck, her hand in my back pocket. I go to get my keys but they're gone. That's when I realize my sneaky fine ass girlfriend had them. She swung them around on her finger just like the first time I met that hot son of a gun. "Get in." She says. "My pleasure." I get in shotgun and she drives toward longhorn steakhouse. I glance over at her, gladly. No other shotgun rider beside me, singin' to the radio.
