Almost There, Almost Gone, And The Climb

Jason's pov

We had walked for several miles when I heard Dallas mumble, "Damn my feet are killing me." I smile.

Miranda's pov

Suddenly I feel my feet pulled out from under me. I almost scream but I realize it was Jason. I smile when he picks me up bridal style. I rest my head tiredly against his chest. "Thanks." "No problem. Hey Todd how much further?" He points to a gaping hole in the wall, miles ahead of us.

*almost a hundred miles of walking later*

Jason and I collapse exhaustedly from the walk. "Are we there yet?" I whisper, panting. "Almost there baby girl." He says also having trouble breathing. Nathan was asleep in Todd's arms and the man looked plum dead to the world. "Hey Todd please tell me we have water?" Jason gasps in an almost begging voice. He fishes one last bottle left. It's half full. He slowly sits up and drinks a little then hands it to me but I don't even have the strength to sit up. I just close my eyes, praying the exhausted pain in my muscles will go away. I feel him pull me up. "Come on Dallas, ya gotta stay hydrated." He says. I slowly open my eyes, my head now in his lap. He puts the bottle to my lips. "You alright?" "Just..... So..... Tired." I whisper, my legs and arms weak from all the walking. "I don't think I can make it." His grip gets tight making me wince. "No, don't you dare quit on me Dallas! You can't die! Not like this!!" He cries.

Jason's pov

Her head lulls to the side. "She's one tough cookie but everyone has their breaking point." Todd says with a sad sigh. "D-Dallas!! Wake up!! Speak to me!! If you give up, I give up! Open your God damned eyes woman!!" She mumbles something. I make her sit up. "Dallas listen to me!" Nothing but her head tilting back. "Dammit, Miranda wake up, open your eyes! Don't you fucking die on me now!! Not now not after all we've been through together!!! Dammit girl I need you!!" I make her stand up. Her legs are shaking. "Dallas?" I shakily whimper. Thank God she finally opens her eyes. "Jas-" But then she collapses!!!I pick her up bridal style and keep walking toward the cave. I look up and he wasn't kidding. A huge upwards climb that goes straight up. There's a small stream. I decide to let her cool off in the stream. "Do you mind?" I growl. They both walk out of the cave and I strip her and set her in the water. "Please be okay girl, please!"

Miranda's pov

The cold I feel on my muscles feels so good. I will my eyes open and see Jason holding me up in the water, he's crying. "Jason," I whisper, my voice hoarse for some reason. His head snaps up, wide eyed. "Miranda!" He cries gladly hugging me. I smile and hug him too. After I'm well enough to walk, I get out and get dressed. "Thank God you're okay." He whispers hugging me. "I thought I lost you for a minute there." I'm so scared. Beside the stream there's a pit of magma. "Well it's definitely the center of the earth." I murmur, hanging off Jason's shoulder since I'm still weak. Todd and Nathan walk in. Jason pulls the rope from my hip and ties it around my waist and his. "We better get to climbing." My jaw drops. "There's no way I'll make it Jason! I can barely stand!" He smiles. "We're gonna make it out of here Miranda. I promise. You're gonna be okay." It sends chills down my spine when he uses my real name instead of Dallas. I love the nickname but I like it when he calls me by my real name. I hug him, trying not to cry. "Jason, I like it when you use my real name." His hands shakily wrap around me. "Can you start using it more often?" "Anything for you..... Miranda." I smile. "I love you, Jason." "I love you too hun." Todd and Nathan look shocked that we plan on climbing. "Dude this is our only chance of survival." Jason says. Todd looks at Nathan worried. The boy looks back determined. "Let's do it!" He says shocking all of us since he hadn't spoken a word! "You heard the kid! Let's do it!" Jason shouts smiling.
