Chapter 2
I was sat in the claustrophobic car surrounded by boxes and items we couldn't pack away. The strong smells of dust and cardboard hit me very quickly and stung the back of my throat. I only saw the house online with the pictures and floor plans. I have no idea how far it is from school let alone from the old house.
Anytime the car shook, boxes would come crashing down on top of me. It didn't bother Leo who was sat right next to me. He was on his phone on some heated group chat as his phone would buzz every minute. I peered over the boxes to see what he was doing. The group chat was headed 'rate my rollie'. What a weird and stupid name. The chat started out as a laugh but then turned nasty very quickly as the chat was now about Leo ditching his mates to go to uni in September.
I could hear Dad and Marina mumbling in the front, boxes were in the way so, I couldn't see where we were going. I'm not a fan of mystery tours myself.
Dad did another sharp turn and more boxes fell on top of myself and Leo. This time he noticed and wasn't happy as he dropped his phone as a consequence of Dad's previous action.Dad stopped and put the hand-break up. Were we here already?
Marina opened the car door wide open, then I could hear her running. Possibly her toilet request got the better of her. Dad then opened his door and got out to open mine, I was sat right behind him. I tried to stop boxes falling out as I was trying to depart from the car. Dad then opened Leo's door.
A smash came from the other side where Leo was. 'You idiot! Look what you have done!' Shouted Dad.
'Oh dear!' I shouted over the car to Dad and Leo, trying to sound a little concerned.
Leo walked around the back of the car and passed my front door, he glared at me for my comment. Dropping the box was going to happen sooner or later. It started to become dark quickly as the clouds came together as one. I could hear drops of rain attacking the car. Leo and I looked at each other and we both dived back into the car.
"I'm staying in here till the rain passes." Announced Leo.
"You know you could of helped Dad with box you dropped." I suggested as I watched Dad trying to keep the box as one as it fell apart due to the rain; he was getting soaked.
"He and Marina wanted to move, not me!" Leo said once again being distracted by his incoming messages on his phone.
"The house wasn't big enough for the new baby, so we sort of had too. Besides, you're off to uni at the end of September so technically you don't live here."Marina opened the car door, wet from head to foot. " Out now please! The removal men have just arrived and I'm trying to find the box with the kettle in to make everyone a nice cup of tea before we unpack."
I searched around for the box labelled kitchen appliances, Leo continued to stare down at his phone.
"Clara dear, look towards the back as it was last to be packed so it is first to unpacked." Marina suggested. I got out the car and walked as quick as I could to the back of the Land Rover and opened the boot. Smash! Another box fell out labelled 'kitchen crockery'. Dad came rushing over with what was left from the box Leo dropped a few minutes back. " Oh Clara, check what's damaged please?" I knelt down getting my trousers wet and opened the box. I felt a sharp scratch, a broken plate had cut my hand and I was bleeding. I stacked up the broken plates and cups and threw them in the wheelie bin outside. Then I saw it, the new house. A tall Victorian house with large bay windows and with more than two floors. I couldn't believe how big it was. Sadly it was slightly run down on the outside but it looked amazing.
I couldn't wait to get inside.-End of chapter two-
