Alan's pov (Clara's Dad)
After speaking to the doctor about Clara's treatment with Josie by my side, we headed for the lifts. Marina was on night duty and was on Clara's part of the A & E ward so she could monitor Clara while I looked after Joseph. That was the plan.
As we were waiting for the lifts to come up, Josie and I said nothing to each other. I was looking at my watch and it was half twelve. Marina should of started at ten but she called work to explain her situation. They were fine with it. Josie stood next to me rolling up a cigarette. 'Josie, you haven't given up yet?' I said to start a conversation well, a negative one. My Dad passed away from a heart attack incorraged by smoking. So, I'm very wary of it.
'Alan I do try.' She tried to explain.
'Well try harder!' I shouted at her. Nurses who were also waiting for the lift glared at us. Josie scowled at me and got into the lift when it arrived.
As the lift got to way out, Josie stormed ahead towards the automatic doors. I tried to catch up with her. 'Why don't you run your own life for a change!' She snapped at me. 'I'm here for Clara's and Leo's sake only. Not yours. You got a geogrous son to look after and a bitch of a wife who love you very much. Alan we are no longer a couple but we are here for our children, who needs us right now.' She walked out the door and lit her cigarette. 'Ok Josie, will you see Clara tomorrow?' I asked her while she took a drag of her fag. She blow the smoke in my face. 'Of course I will Alan!'
Josie gets her phone out. 'Who are you calling?' I ask her. 'Taylor but, he not picking up!' She said getting annoyed with Taylor. 'Maybe he busy, ' I suggested.
She put her blackberry back in her pocket 'I know why! Taylor said he was going to the airport after the funeral for a business trip. How could I forget! I didn't even say goodbye.' Her left hand covered her face in disappointment.
'Don't worry Josie. How long has he gone for?' I asked her.
'Till Friday.' She told me.
'Ok. Do you drive?' I asked her again.
'No Alan, I don't.'
'Ok why don't you stop for a night or so at mine as we seeing Clara together. ' I told her.
'Okay!'
I called for a taxi. It was chucking it down with rain. The rain was loud as we stood under the shelter. Josie stood on her cigarette. Either me or Josie said a word to each other after our discussion. She was on facebook on her phone. I never see the point of facebook to be honest.
When the taxi came, Josie sat in the back and I was in the front. The radio that had some weird radio was glaring out. I could bearly think.
When we got to my house, Marina was in her car waiting for me to go into the house. When I saw her I gave her a quick wave and she reversed off the gravel to get to her night shift. Josie and I stumbled inside. I don't think Marina saw Josie. I didn't want to have them fighting again.
I switched on the living room light and Josie made her way to the leather sofa's to take off her boots. I hung up my leather coat and went into the kitchen. 'Milky brow?' I asked Josie.
'Cheers Alan.' She replied.
It nice to have things the way they used to be.
