A New Face

(Jacob's POV)

I've been at the hospital for a week now and I am able to leave in 2 days. Max keeps on leaving the hospital early and gives me a variety of excuses. I overheard Max and Ross talking about throwing a welcome back party when I can leave the hospital, Max still doesn't know that I found out.

(Max's POV)

What Jacob doesn't know is that the "welcome back" party is a coverup for what we are actually going to do. I've planned...

(Jacob's POV)

Since I have been at the hospital for a while the doctors have allowed me to freely walk around the hospital without getting in the way. I also have gotten to know the doctors and nurses by name. While I was walking around I noticed many doctors rushing towards the entrance. One nurse came up to me and said, "Jacob you need to go back to your room or out of the way we need to get this person to intensive care." Without argument I stepped aside as I watched the cluster of doctors rush towards the intensive care unit, pushing the person on the gurney. As they left I turned to one of the nurses and asked, "hey Shirley what happened and who was that on the gurney?"
"The patient is a girl but there is no record of a name and she was in a burning house that had collapsed on her severely injuring her, not to mention the deadly gasses knocking her out before the fire department brought her here." Shirley replied.
"Oh my... How old is she?" I asked.
"14" Shirley replied.
"Can you come and tell me when she is out of intensive care? I would like to talk to her for a little." I said.
"Aww aren't you so sweet! Sure sweetie I will tell you when she is out and able to talk." Shirley replied.
"Thanks." I said. I walked back to my room to wait for Shirley to tell me when the girl is out of intensive care. Almost instantly Max came in right when I sat down. "I've been meaning to talk to you about this." max said as he held my phone in his hand, "dad Max? Really? He said smiling.
"Do you want me to change it?" I said laughing.
"No. It's fine how it is." Max said as he came closer to give me a hug. I hugged him back but it is hard to move my arm around with the hard cast on but I managed.

(Timeskip 4 hours later)
(Jacob's POV)

It is getting late now and Shirley hasn't came and told me if the girl is out of intensive care yet. I began to go on my phone to pass the time when Shirley walked in and said, "Follow me Jacob, the girl is out of intensive care." I nodded and followed Shirley to a room where she was. As I walked in I noticed the burns on her body and the cast on her leg. I sat in he chair next to the bed and said, "hi my name is Jacob, do you know your name?" I asked.
"North." She said
"Is that your name?" I asked.
"Yes" North said.
"Do you know where you were? Before you came here?" I asked.
"A house. Out in the middle of nowhere." North replied. I began to get interested but got sidetracked when a nurse said that Max came looking for me."I got to go I'll talk to you later." I said.
"O-ok." North said. I left the room and bumped into Max. "Hey! You ready!" Max said excitedly.
"For what?" I asked.
"To go home! The doctor just released you!" Max exclaimed.
"Yeah I just want to at least come back daily to visit North." I said.
"Who is North?" Max asked. I pointed to the room I was just in. "Sure thing!" Max said.
I was excited to go home and see the others at this "surprise" party that Max is throwing for me.
