December 21, 2015Dear Journal,
Sixteen. I honestly didn't think I'd live this long. I turned sixteen today. About two weeks ago the police found the cabin and arrested Nathaniel and Martha. They found me and took me to the local hospital. I recently got out of surgery and x-rays. I have three cracked ribs, a sprained right wrist, shattered left knee and shattered right ankle, blood loss, and a lot of scars.
The best thing is though, I get to start high school in a week. Apparently my disappearance was a big deal and my reappearance was an even bigger one. My nurses have told me that once I'm available for visitors I will get a lot.
Speaking of my nurses they gave me this journal so I could, 'write about the feelings I don't want to share yet.' That is literally what she said. I personally think this is just another way of pitying me that is all they ever do. Give me pity, I'm sick of it.
I also have someone that wants to adopt me. Joy. If I remember correctly, their name is Lindley or something. I have to go.
Sincerely,D.R.W.
I set the journal down on the table beside. A nurse comes in and says, "Hello Rose, how are you today?" She gives me a kind smile but I see the pity in her eyes. "I'm fine," I say glaring at her. "Well that is good. We have a visitor for you. Her name is Mrs. Lindley and she is going to adopt you if you want." The nurse says brightly, "Whatever," I respond.
The nurse sighs then calls a woman in. I pick up my journal and start to draw on a blank page to avoid looking at the new addition to the room. "I'll leave you two to it I guess. If you need anything Rose just press the button," the nurse says closing the door. Silence fills the room accept for the occasional noise of my pencil.
"Rose, honey, if this is going to work out you're going to have to talk to me," I look up with a gasp. Miss Simmons or rather Mrs. Lindley. She smiles at me and for the first time in four years I smile back. "I missed you," she says. "I missed you too." I reply. "Well would you like to come live with me?" she asks. "I-I don't know," I stutter. "I mean I trust you and all but-," I pause and she nods.
"Mrs. Lindley?" I ask after a few minutes of silence. "Yes I got married," she says smiling. "I'm happy for you," I say smiling back. "Where is your husband?" I ask timidly. "He will be on a business trip for the next five weeks in Japan," she says.
"I would like it," I say. "Like what?" Mrs. Lindley asks. "To come live with you," I say smiling. "Great!" She exclaims, "I'll hopefully have the paper work done by tonight and you can move in tomorrow." Our excitement is interrupted by a knock at the door. A nurse pokes her head in and says, "Miss Winters you have some more visitors." "Who are they?" I ask. "It's a group of six boys and six girls, but we can only aloud two people at a time." The nurse says. "I'll leave you to talk to them. See you tomorrow," Mrs. Lindley says and leaves. "Send them in," I say smile disappearing.
The door reopens and I see a white haired and red haired boy walk in. "Rose," the red head asks cautiously. I look at them closer. "Jake? Jack?" I ask back. They both come and sit by me. They both have grown a lot. Jake used to be an average height, scrawny nerd. Not anymore.
He is probably about six two now with more defined muscles. True to his position as the heir to the fire kingdom heat radiates off of him in waves. His fiery eyes burn with concern. Freckles are lightly sprinkled across his face. His voice has also deepened through the years.
