I tried to stand up off the sidewalk. My head pulsed as I fell back down. I sat on the edge of the sidewalk, trying to get myself together enough to get up.

I slowly stood up and grabbed onto the tree next to me. I leaned there for a while til a man walked up to me and tapped me on the shoulder.

"Miss, are you alright?" His voice was familiar.

I whipped my head around [ouch] to see what he looked like. His face triggered a flashback from last night.

I was running across the sand. Brad was hollering at me to stop. I tripped over a large rock and went tumbling through the sand. My stomach scratched across a sharp piece of beach glass. I lay motionless, grasping my stomach with pain. Brad came to see if I was okay but I yelled at him and told him I wasn't a child and didn't need protection. He looked hurt. He told me I was being a bitch and that if I wanted his forgiveness it might not be easy to get. I told him I didn't care and I ran into the street. This man came up to me and offered me a ride. I rejected because I didn't know him. He warned me to get off the street before I got hurt. I listened and started walking to the sidewalk. He drove off and another car came from the opposite direction. The mirror hit my shoulder and sent me flying onto the sidewalk.

"Miss?" He asked, ending my flashback.

"Sir, I think you saved my life last night."

"Oh it's you." He said, looking at my shirt which was covered in blood.

I lifted it up, baring my stomach. There were several cuts. Must be from the beach glass.

"Are you okay?" He asked again.

"I'm not sure. I can barely stand. My head is throbbing."

He helped me over to the bench.

"Do you need me to take you to the hospital?" He asked.

"I might. But would you mind doing something really important for me first?"

"What?" He looked almost excited.

"I lost my phone and I think it might be down there on the beach. Right near the bike trails. Would you mind looking for it? Please."

"Of course. I'll be back soon."

And with that he ran off to retrieve my phone.
