He's laying in his bed, thinking about her.
Eric never got the texts from her that he wished for at eleven eleven. Eric never got the calls from her that he he wished for on shooting stars.
"Dammit, Naomi." He mutters under his breath. He wants to text her. He wants to call her. He wants to talk to her. He wants to see her. Eric takes his phone from his bedside table and checks the time. 9:48 p.m. Now he was the one that had trouble falling asleep. "Why can't you just text or even maybe call me?"
"Eric!" His dad calls from the living room. "Come here!"
Eric groans, standing up and walking two rooms over. "Yeah?"
"Are you hung up over Naomi?" His dad asks.
Eric raises a questioning eyebrow, "how'd you know?"
"That's all you talk about," his dad tells him. "Oh! Naomi and I were having so much fun today in Math! Naomi and I were laughing at Mr. Matt today! Naomi and I! Naomi and I!" Eric's dad mocks.
"I do not!" Eric protests.
"Yes you do, sweetie." His mom says, flipping a page in the book she's caught up in.
"That just means I have a friend." Eric rolls his eyes.
"Jim says you've been talking in your sleep. 'Oh Naomi! I love you too!'" His dad chuckles.
"Why would you believe Jim!" Eric groans, sitting on the couch next to his mom.
"Jim is a great brother, that's why." His mom replies. "Also, his girlfriend Pamela and him have been together for two years."
"What does that mean?" Eric asks, very confused.
"He asked her out in Sophomore year. High time you ask out Naomi." His dad responds.
"Exactly." His mom nods her head in agreement.
"Naomi hates me." Eric sighs.
"I doubt that girl could ever hate you." His mom says.
"Then she only sees me as a friend." Eric barks, getting awfully frustrated with his parents.
"Make that change then." His dad says. "Can't be that hard."
"It's Naomi Ruth." Eric tells them. "She's never dated anyone in the fifteen years she's been alive."
"Well, then you really have to do something special." His mom tells him.
"Yeah, do her innermost desire." He scoffs, confused as to how he would even be able to find out what that is. "Plus, you guys know how I am with dating. I date a girl for a couple weeks, maybe a month, then we break up. I don't wanna lose Naomi in a friend way."
"Fine, don't listen to us." His dad rolls his eyes. "We're going to bed, please be quiet."
His mom and dad get up, walking hand in hand to their bedroom. They had been happily married for twenty years now. They were the ultimate and perfect married couple.
Eric goes back to his room. Jim was at Pamela's home, probably doing something very unholy. He lays back down grabbing his phone from the bedside table. 9:57. "I wish you would just call me, Naomi. Even though it's a Thursday night and you have no legitimate reason to, I wish you would just call me and talk to me." Eric whispers to his pillow. The grandfather clock chimes ten and Eric's pillow starts vibrating. He grabs his phone and sees something he would've never guessed to see.
