"Then what's the fifth wish?" I ask as Naomi runs into the dead store with nearly dead employees who got startled by us. "Sorry." I mumble, looking over at Naomi.
God, she's so beautiful isn't she? So uninterested in you too.
"You'll find out soon enough." She grins at me, grabbing my hand.
She's holding my hand. Naomi Ruth is holding my hand. MeMeMe.
We run through the aisles and the speed cause her hair to run through the choppy wind. Back and forth and forth and back.
My hand. My hand. My hand.
She won't date you though.
I try to imagine us being together but my thoughts keep interrupting.
Friends only.
I try to focus on scaring the customers but all I can do is laugh when she laughs.
She's beautiful and amazing.
We finally stop and Naomi leans against a shelve, still holding my hand. I lean on the same shelve next to her.
Her hand. My hand. Wow.
She takes a step forward, but I linger back. I never let go of her hand.
Man, it feels really good to hold her hand.
It feels kinda really nice.
"Why are we in the dog food aisle?" I finally ask.
"Pet food aisle, excuse you." She corrects me, turning around and smiling at me.
"We're standing in the dog food section or the aisle though." I whisper, leaning closer to her and taking a chance. Her cheeks turn bright red, which makes her even cuter somehow. I steal a glance at her red lips before she quickly turns around and lets go of it.
Aw, poor you. She doesn't like you that way, shocker.
She grabs a dollar can and gestures for me to follow me. We go to check out and the sleepy, annoyed cashier scan the dog food for us. "Shit! One second, I'll be right back." She tells me and the cashier as I pull out my wallet, leaving us as she runs to grab something.
"So," the cashier, whose name tag says Billy, says. "Are you getting with that?"
"It's Naomi, not that." I sigh.
"Fine, are you sleeping with Naomi?"
"I really wanna date her."
"You guys are just friends with benefits?" Bully asks, cocking an eyebrow.
"Not even that. I doubt she likes me."
"You have a crush on her?"
"A crush wouldn't be enough to describe it." I shrug, looking over as I hear Naomi coming back. "Don't say anything."
Naomi places a box of condoms on the conveyer belt. "Okay, now I'm done."
"I really wanna ask, but I won't." The cashier winks at me.
Oh god, I hate him.
"Oh, it's not like that..." She blushes, looking over at me. My head hangs low, trying to distract how bad I wish it was like that. I quickly hand the cashier the amount and she grabs the items, leaving. As we exit the store, she stops to look up at me. "I'm sorry. For grabbing your hand and for making this awkward and for just-" I cut her off.
"Being you? Don't be sorry, Ruth." I smile. "It was kind of fun, running through the aisles with you. I enjoyed it."
Probably cause I'm in love with you.
"Really? I-I tried doing that with another friend but Amelia told me to stop..." She looks down, kicking at the cement.
"Amelia is a loser than." I grab her hand. "I live running through aisles."
Wow, you did it.
We both laugh, our eyes gleaning. I swear, that for one spilt second, we might have looked like an extremely happy couple. A Jim and Pam if you will.
Too bad she doesn't like you.
She takes her hand back and looks down at the items. "Alright, time for us to take a little intermission part two before we drop these off to a certain bitch."
