CHAPTER THIRTY THREE
OH, THE SUSPENCE! Admittedly, I adore this chapter. Its just so epic! But the next one will be even better!
We were only on the plane for a few hours. I had no idea where we were going, either. And what would some Strigoi get out of flying a simple person out to a foreign place? Why not just kill me then and there? Why even go to all the trouble of flying me some place? Not that I wanted that option. But it’s too fishy of a situation for me to just let go of. There has to be an ulterior motive other than feeding. Strigoi are selfish, dark creatures, and don’t take orders well.
When most people think of vampires, ‘dark, bloodthirsty creature of the night’ comes to mind. But really? It depends on what vampire you mean. Moroi vampires, which are more gentle, but like a ghost, and rarely seen. Daylight won’t instantly kill them, but it makes for an uncomfortable situation with their sensitivity. They don’t kill their prey, though they don’t believe in feeding off animals. Also, the myth goes that Moroi vampires are born from two Moroi vampires together, unlike Strigoi, who are made by many ways. Some say it’s from an unpeacful death or some random animal walking over the grave, others claim its when a vampire, Moroi or just a vampire, drink on the blood of a Strigoi.
Strigoi vampires, which are soulless demons who really just kill for the sake of taking another’s life, also ultimately hunting down Moroi vampires since their blood is so rare and, dare I say, ‘succulent’. They also can’t touch the sun without turning to ash (your stereotypical vampire). Their red ringed eyes make an easy spot from other vampires. Even the vampires I associated with, just a plain old vampire in naming terms have various eyes. Red if they feast on human blood, and a deep honey if they choose to control their thirst and use animals for their blood supplies. Strigoi are also said to be able to shape shift if advanced enough, and even use some compulsion.
It’s said that vampires were a hybrid breed from a Moroi vampire and a Strigoi vampire. Its unnatural offspring became the average vampire, inheriting traits from each. Their tame choice of feeding from animals, but the more gluttonous alternative of human killing for better blood. The varying red or honey eye pigment. The ability to withstand the sun without harm. Vampires can’t use compulsion or shape shift like their ancestors, but they do have a certain natural aura that draws in others without them even trying. It makes finding prey simple, but hiding difficult.
I snapped out of my daze from a hard shove on my shoulder. Startled, I looked over to see my captor standing, jabbing a finger to the exit. “Time to go.” He snapped, and I reluctantly drug my feet off the plane. Outside my surroundings came into view. The familiar sights and sounds. Even the smell sparked my memory. I was in Italy, the airport used so many times to bring me to Aro.
Aro. He must have sent for me. But why use some bossy Strigoi, and not do it himself? Why risk the Strigoi revolting and killing me for himself? It was a stupid idea of Aro, but the only reason I could come up with, other than the substitute option of hi randomly stalking me and going to all this trouble to bring me to Europe. Then again, there was the small chance that he suddenly felt like taking a piece of prey to Italy for no apparent reason. That’s a sure no. None of it made much sense. But I had to admit, knowing Aro was probably responsible for this entire hubbub made it easier to deal with. I instantly relaxed, and my captor noticed the sudden change of mood.
“Get a move on.” He hissed, giving me a small push from behind. Of course, a small push to a Strigoi was like a full force shoving to me. Imagine an average sized person. Now imagine that person swatting a newborn baby bird to the side. That’s what its like. I hmphed and tried to look as defiant and bold as I could as we walked outside. There was a black limousine parked there, and he ordered me inside. I cooperated. Aro would have hell when I got there for sending some stupid Strigoi as an errand boy to fetch me. I mean, if your going to send anyone, at least send Clause or something.
