Dear Denver,
I'm writing this on Christmas, so...merry Christmas! I wish we could've spent it together. I want to hear about all the fun things you did over the holiday break.
I hope you like your present. I won't say what it is, in case you haven't received it yet. I haven't gotten yours yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
I wish you could be here for New Years. Guess I'll just have to kiss my kitten at midnight!
Oh! Which reminds me. I got a cat! Her name is Mistletoe, because I got her today and she was playing with a little piece of mistletoe. I know you're allergic to cats, but if you weren't, I bet you would love her! She's absolutely adorable.
I can't wait to hear from you, whether in a letter or a phone call. I've missed you a lot during the holidays, and I can't wait til you come back on leave! I'll start planning all the fun things we'll do. I know that whatever it is, it'll be special because it'll be with you. :)

I folded up the letter and flexed my fingers, trying to get the stiffness out. Then I went to the small office we had next door to my bedroom, and got out an envelope.

I copied Denver's address from the back of the envelope he'd sent his letter in. Then I sprayed it with a little bit of perfume-silly, I know-and went to stick it in the mailbox.

When I got back inside, I realized just how tired I was. It felt like years since I'd really slept!

"Wanna take a nap, kitty?" I cooed, petting Mistletoe. She purred. "Me too." I decided to couch nap, and took a blanket out of the hallway closet. Then I stretched out on the leather couch and fell asleep.
