A/N: Guys. I'm going to do something I've never done in this book so far... I'm going to give you a chapter in Denver's POV! It might be kinda short, but hopefully you won't mind.
- - -||Denver's POV||
I wasn't very familiar with driving Skylinn's car, but I got used to it pretty quickly. It just sat a little lower than mine, is all.
I looked over at my girlfriend and saw that she was already sleeping. Figures. The poor thing hadn't slept a wink all night! I wondered why... Was she just nervous about today?
I know I had been, when I first woke up this morning. Even though I was so used to being with Skylinn and everything, I was afraid of seeing her again, afraid that things would be different.
After all, we hadn't actually seen each other in six months. Through all the holidays-Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter-I'd been away from her. Half the year was gone, and I barely knew anything about what had happened since I'd left. Skylinn had been in a freaking accident and I wasn't even here to help her get better! I wasn't here when it happened, and I wasn't here when she got the cast off. There were just a lot of things left unknown.
I didn't know whether to talk about those things or just leave them where they were: in the past. Should I be concerned about what happened while I was away? Or should I just move on, be here, in the moment, while it lasted?
A little over an hour later, we reached Skylinn's house. "Wake up, sleepyhead," I whispered, nudging her shoulder.
She stirred slightly. "Are we home?"
"Yup. You can go back to sleep once you get inside, I promise."
She nodded and got out of the car, and I walked her to the front door and up to her bedroom. "I'll be back later, okay?"
"Mmhmm," she said, already drifting back to sleep.
I brushed her hair back and bent to kiss her forehead before leaving. It would be nice to catch up later, and I looked forward to our date.
When I walked outside, I saw Jonny sitting on his front porch, drinking a glass of ice water. He'd never liked sugary drinks as long as I'd known him.
"Hey," I called out, waving.
He looked up, startled, and then lifted his hand to wave back at me. I watched him come off the porch and walk over to the fence that separated the two houses.
"How are you? It's good to see you," he said, holding out his hand.
I took it and returned the handshake. "Oh, I'm good. You?"
"Pretty good. Did you guys just get back?"
"Yeah, we did. Skylinn's sleeping."
"Ah. I know she was really excited to see you," he said.
"Yeah? Well same here."
Jonny looked away for a moment, and it made me think about his friendship with Skylinn. I hated to even think like that, but there was always that "what-if" in my head. What if something had happened while I was away?
No.
Skylinn wouldn't do that. She was too good of a person to even think of cheating on me. Besides, Jonny was just a friend. She never referred to him as anything but.
Just as soon as the thought came, it went away. And I was glad, because I didn't want to think about them. That was unchartered territory, and it was never good to dwell on the "what-ifs." But alas, it was something I did constantly. And I hated myself for it.
