We stopped at the nearest Chick-Fil-A for dinner, and it was so good. I felt like I hadn't eaten all day!
"I swear, this place has the best chicken sandwich," Jonny said, his mouth half-full.
"I'd hope so. That's what they're known for," I replied matter-of-factly. "And chew with your mouth closed, please. Were you raised in a barn?"
He swallowed, but then stuck his tongue out at me.
"Oh, real mature."
Denver laughed quietly. "Today was fun. I wish I could go to Animal Kingdom with you guys tomorrow."
"I know, me too. Stupid pool. But on the bright side, it gives me an excuse to come over more. We could have a swim party!"
"You hate parties," he reminded me.
"True. I just meant, like, our families. And Jonny, of course."
Jonny smiled appreciatively from across the table. "Thanks."
I smiled back. "When will it be ready?" I asked Denver.
"Maybe in...two or three days?" he replied.
"Perfect. Plenty of time to get some swimming in!" Before you go, I added silently.
"Yeah. I can't believe it's summer already."
"I know! Too bad daycares are open all year round." I frowned, but wiped it away quickly. "Oh well. I can just come over after work."
"Of course," Denver agreed, resting his arm on the back of my chair.
"How come you guys are just now getting a pool?" Jonny spoke up.
"I have no idea. My mom wanted to, I guess. Maybe she's bored now that I'm gone all the time."
"What about your dad?"
"He's usually working, I suppose."
"Well I bet that'll be good for her," I chimed in. "Besides, who doesn't like a good pool in the summer?"
